Dynan's Victory Highlights Strong Day for Cross Country Teams at Smith

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.—Sophomore Matthew Dynan (Reading, Mass.) won for the second time in as many meets and the Babson College men's and women's cross country teams had six harriers finish in the top 20 of their respective races on Saturday at the Smith Invitational. The men came in second overall, finishing just four points behind Coast Guard, while the women came in eighth.

Dynan finished the 8k course with a time of 27:41 to post an eight second victory for the Beavers. Junior Jonathan Miller (Westford, Mass.) finished sixth with a time of 28:44, which was seven seconds better than classmate Scott Atwood (West Newbury, Mass.), who came in eighth.

First-year Samir Arora (Fremont, Calif.) crossed the finish line with a time of 29:09 to come in 13th, while junior John Decker (Parkland, Fla.) was 16th overall with a time of 29:10. First-years Nicholas Virkler (Lincoln, Mass.) and Andrew Pokorny (New York, N.Y.) also put together strong races to finish 27th and 31st, respectively.

Sophomore Chaela Hood (Plymouth, Mass.) was Babson's top female finisher for the second meet in a row, recording a time of 21:43 in the 5k race to cross the finish line in 18th position. Junior Melanie Plattner (Fort Lee, N.J.) posted a time of 22:09 to come in 26th, while classmate Heather Murphy (Perrineville, N.J.) ran a time of 23:02 to come in 53rd.

First-year Jenna Sweeney (Forestdale, Mass.) finished the course in a time of 23:35 and came in 63rd, seven spots ahead of sophomore Emily MacDonald (East Sandwich, Mass.), who recorded a time of 24:06. Classmate My-Linh DeBonis (Framingham, Mass.) finished 77th with a time of 24:47.

Babson will take next Saturday off before returning to action on Saturday, September 24, at the Codfish Bowl at Franklin Park in Boston.
