For the third straight year, the Babson College men's and women's cross country teams will open the 2017 season with a dual meet against Wheaton on Friday afternoon. The women will compete in a two-mile race, while the men will take part in a 5k event.

Junior Matthew Dynan won the 5k for the second year in a row with a time of 16:30 as the Green and White placed eight in the top ten. Senior Jonathan Miller and sophomore Samir Arora finished second and third respectively to help the Beavers outscore the Lyons 17-55. On the women's side, junior Chaela Hood placed sixth and senior Melanie Plattner placed seventh as the Green and White fell 15-52 to the Lyons.

The Wheaton men bring back five of their top seven runners that competed at the 2016 NEWMAC Championship meet, where the squad finished eighth overall. Senior Josh Alabre is the team's top returning harrier as he lead the Lyons with his 38th place finish at the 2016 NEWMAC Championship meet …Similar to the men, the lady Lyons bring back five of their top seven runners that compete at the 2016 NEWMAC Championship meet. Lead by junior Rebecca Miceli who finished 22nd at the 2016 NEWMAC championship meet, the Lyons add five new faces to their 2017 roster as they look to improve on their 2016 NEWMAC sixth place finish.

The Babson men enter the 2017 season with its top 10 runners returning from a team that finished third at the conference meet last October. Dynan posted a fifth place finish at the 2016 NEWMAC Championship, while junior John Decker and Miller came in at 22nd and 26th respectively. Rounding out the scoring on the men's side were senior Scott Atwood in 33rd and classmate Ryan Colaco in 54th…the Babson women will once again be young as they have eight runners that enter the season with less than two years of experience in the program. Seniors Heather Murphy and Plattner alongside juniors Hood and Emily MacDonald return as the veteran members.

The Green and White was picked to finish third in the men's NEWMAC preseason coaches' poll, while the women's squad came in tied at ninth. The 2017 NEWMAC Championship is slated for October 29 at Franklin Park in Boston, while the NCAA regional meet returns to Gorham, Maine, for the first time since 2013.
