Men Finish Seventh, Women 19th in 40-Team Field
DARTMOUTH, Mass.—Junior Matthew Dynan (Reading, Mass.) made a late charge to post his second victory in as many meets, highlighting a strong day for the Babson College men's and women's cross country teams at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational. The men came in seventh to record their top result in program history, while the women's squad placed 19th in the 40-team field.
Dynan crossed the finish line with a career-best time of 25:23 on the 8k course to edge Ryan Stender of Brandeis by two seconds. His time was 10 seconds better than his previous personal best and now ranks fourth in program history.
Senior John Decker (Parkland, Fla.) put together a strong performance, finishing 11th with a new personal best of 25:45. Classmate Jonathan Miller (Westford, Mass.) came in 47th with a time of 26:46, while first-year Zach Goldberg (Westford, Mass.) placed 77th with a time of 27:21.
Junior Austin Henry (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) crossed the finish line in a time of 28:10, which was 54 seconds faster than his previous personal best. Senior Scott Atwood (West Newbury, Mass.) posted a time of 28:42 and classmate Ryan Colaco (Danville, Calif.) finished the course in 28:58.
On the women's side, the Beavers were led by sophomore Stephanie Rodriguez (Guatemala City, Guatemala), who came in 31st with a time of 19:24 on the 5k course. Junior Chaela Hood (Plymouth, Mass.) crossed the finish line with a time of 20:30, while senior Melanie Plattner (Fort Lee, N.J.) and first-year Emma Cavanaugh (Southbury, Conn.) finished just a second a part in 20:53 and 20:54, respectively.
First-year Caroline Winicki (Middlebury, Conn.) posted a time of 21:05 and classmate Kelley Burtch (Norwell, Mass.) finished nine spots behind her with a time of 21:22. Senior Heather Murphy (Perrineville, N.J.) came in with a time of 21:35.
Babson will return to action on September 30 when it travels to Saratoga Spa State Park for the Rensselaer Invitational. The women's race will begin at 11 a.m., while the men's meet is slated to start at 12 p.m.
• Five of the Babson men's top eight times in program history have come at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
• The men's seventh-place finish was one spot higher than their previous best achieved back in 2013.
• The women's result was their best since placing 18th in 2014.
• Dynan's victory was the fifth of his career and the second at the 8k distance.
