WESTWOOD, Mass.—The Babson College men's cross country team was picked to finish sixth when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its preseason coaches' poll on Wednesday morning.
MIT, which captured its 21st consecutive title last season, grabbed seven of eight first-place votes to finish atop the poll. Defending runner-up WPI earned one first-place vote and finished second. Coast Guard Academy came in third, while Wheaton College and Springfield College tied for fourth place.
The Beavers return six runners from a team that placed fifth at the conference meet and 19th at the NCAA New England Championship last November. The Green and White has recorded 10 straight top-five results at the NEWMAC Championship dating back to 2009.
Babson gets the season underway with a dual meet at Wheaton on Friday at 6 p.m.
