WESTWOOD, Mass.—Babson College senior Nicholas Virkler (Lincoln, Mass.) was honored for his work in the classroom when he was named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's cross country Academic All-Conference team on Wednesday.
Virkler, who garnered his second consecutive academic all-conference award, has competed in three of four races this fall for the Beavers. He came in 37th at Fitchburg State's Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational with a time of 29:08 on September 8, and then recorded an 8k personal best (28:17) to place 42nd at the Western New England Invitational on October 19.
In order to be eligible for NEWMAC Academic All-Conference consideration, honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2018 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at his institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
Babson returns to action on Sunday when it travels to Boston's Franklin Park to compete in the NEWMAC Championship meet beginning at 11 a.m.
