Women's Hoops Powers Past Smith, 67-36

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- The Babson College women's basketball team continued its domination of the NEWMAC on Saturday, as the Beavers picked up a convincing 67-36 road victory over Smith College. With the win, Babson improved to 16-3 overall and remained perfect in the conference at 12-0, while the Pioneers dipped to 9-8 overall and 6-6 in league play.

Babson was overpowering at the defensive end, holding Smith to just 15 first-half points on its way to a 36-15 halftime lead. The Pioneers never threatened in the second half, as the Beavers cruised to the 31-point victory. Sophomore Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) posed 22 points and nine rebounds to pace the Green and White, while first-year Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass.) turned in a spectacuar all-around performance with six points, 12 rebounds, four assists, four steals, and two blocked shots. First-year Allanah Wynn (Quincy, Mass.) added five assists and three steals and sophomore Kathleen King (Framingham, Mass.) helped out with nine points, five boards, and four assists.

Leading the Pioneers were Berit Schelde (Holstebro, Denmark) with eight points and five rebounds, and Elizabeth BelBruno (Hanover, N.H.) with seven points, two rebounds, and two steals.
