Wurdeman Caps Off Fantastic Season With D3Hoops and WBCA All-America Honors
After leading the Babson College women's basketball team to a program-record 28 wins and its first-ever trip to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division III Tournament, sophomore forward Nicki Wurdeman capped off her incredible season by earning All-America Honors from multiple organizations this winter. Wurdeman was named Third Team All-America by D3hoops.com and Honorable Mention All-America by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) in conjunction with State Farm. Wurdeman's national honors come after a brilliant season that saw her average 15.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, 1.0 assists, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 59.0 percent (186-315) from the field, 45.7 percent (16-35) from three-point range, and 68.6 percent (83-121) from the free throw line.

Blinstrub Named NEWBA Coach of the Year; Wurdeman Named First Team All-Region
The New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) announced its annual award winners on Tuesday, and head coach Judy Blinstrub and sophomore forward Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) were each honored. Blinstrub was named the 2009-10 NEWBA Coach of the Year, while Wurdeman received All-New England First Team recognition. Blinstrub was named NEWBA Coach of the Year for the second time in her illustrious career. Under her direction, the Beavers closed out the season with a record of 28-4 - the most wins in program history - and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sectional Finals for the first time ever. Wurdeman was named NEWBA All-Region for the second straight year after earning Second Team honors as a first-year. The sophomore star enjoyed a brilliant season this winter, averaging 15.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, 1.0 assists, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 59.0 percent (186-315) from the field, 45.7 percent (16-35) from three-point range, and 68.6 percent (83-121) from the free throw line.

#1 Amherst Outguns Women's Basketball, 80-65, In NCAA Tournament Sectional Final
Babson College was within three points of national number one Amherst College with 11 minutes left in the second half, but the Lady Jeffs were simply too strong down the stretch as they defeated the Beavers, 80-65, in the Sectional Finals of the 2010 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. With the win, Amherst (31-0) advances to its second straight National Semifinal in Bloomington, Illinois, while the Beavers see their spectacular season come to a close with a record of 28-4. Babson received a magnificent performance from sophomore forward Kathleen King (Framingham, Mass.), who scored a career-high 27 points while shooting 10-for-16 from the field and 7-for-10 from the free throw line. The second-year standout also contributed eight rebounds, two blocked shots, two assists, and three steals. Fellow sophomore forward Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) shot 6-for-10 from the floor to finish with 14 points for Babson, while first-year center Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass.) amassed eight points, five boards, two blocks, and two steals.

Women's Basketball Edges Gettysburg In OT, 71-68, To Earn First-Ever Trip To Elite Eight
First-year point guard Allanah Wynn (Quincy, Mass.) hit four huge free throws in the final 37 seconds of overtime to lead the Babson College Beavers to a thrilling 71-68 victory over the Gettysburg College Bullets in the Sectional Semifinals of the 2010 NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament at Amherst College on Friday night. With the win, Babson (28-3) advances to the Sectional Finals (Round of 8) for the first time in the 36-year history of the program. The Beavers, who extended their program-record winning streak to 20 games, will now play host and number-one ranked Amherst in the Section Finals on Saturday at 6 p.m. Babson was led by another brilliant performance from sophomore forward Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.), who shot 9-for-14 from the field to finish with 21 points and 10 rebounds. First-year center Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass.) tacked on 15 points, six boards, and three blocked shots, Wynn finished with 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists, and junior forward Damisi Adewumi (Bronx, N.Y.) chipped in with 10 points off the bench.

Wurdeman Named One Of Five New England Finalists For State Farm Coaches' All-America Team
The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced the regional finalists for its 2010 State Farm Coaches' All-America Team on Tuesday, and Babson College sophomore Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) was one of just five players named from New England. A 6-foot-1 forward, Wurdeman currently leads Babson with 15.0 points per game and a .588 field goal percentage while also ranking among the team leaders with 7.3 rebounds and 1.93 blocks per contest. She was recently named NEWMAC Player of the Year for the first time in her young career, and she received her second straight All-Conference First Team selection. The conference Rookie of the Year and a Second Team All-New England honoree as a first-year in 2009, Wurdeman has led Babson to back-to-back NEWMAC Championships and consecutive berths in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Women's Hoops Set To Face Gettysburg In NCAA Sectional Semifinals
After posting back-to-back wins in the first and second rounds of the NCAA Division III Tournament at Colby this past weekend, the Babson College women's basketball team is heading to the Round of 16 for the third time in program history and the first time since 1994. The Beavers will now head to Amherst College where they will take on the Bullets of Gettysburg College in the Sectional Semifinals on Friday, March 12, at 5 p.m. The winner of that game will then advance to Saturday's Sectional Final against either Williams College or the host Lady Jeffs at 6 p.m. Ticket prices will be $7 for adults and $4 for students with ID, senior citizens, and children. Babson returns to the site of its tough 77-54 first round loss to Amherst a year ago. However, unlike last season, this year's team carries some valuable tournament experience under its belt, as the Beavers blasted Emmanuel, 76-56, in the first round and then outlasted 20th-ranked Colby in double-overtime, 76-73, in the second round on the Mules' home court.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ADVANCES TO NCAA TOURNAMENT SWEET 16 WITH 76-73 DOUBLE OVERTIME VICTORY OVER COLBY
The Babson College women's basketball team defeated Colby College, 76-73 in double overtime in the second round of the NCAA Tournament hosted by Colby. This marks the first time in program history that the Beavers recorded multiple wins in an NCAA Tourney. With the win Babson also set an all-time record for most wins in a season with an overall record of 27-3. Babson was led by sophomore Nicki Wurdeman who finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds. She was followed by sophomore Kathleen King, who tallied 17 points and 11 rebounds, and first-year Sarah Collins, who had a game-high six blocks and 14 rebounds while scoring 16 points. The Beavers will now play Gettysburg in the Sweet 16 next weekend at a site yet to be determined - the program's third Round of 16 appearance.

Women's Basketball Blows Past Emmanuel, 76-56, In First Round of NCAA Tournament
Sophomore forward Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) scored a career-high 29 points on 12-of-13 shooting to lead the Babson College women’s basketball team to a 76-56 victory over Emmanuel College in the first round of the 2010 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament at Colby College’s Wadsworth Gymnasium on Friday night. With their 18th straight victory, the Beavers improved to 26-3 – tying the program record for wins in a season – and advanced to Saturday’s second round where they will meet either Husson College or the host Mules at 7 p.m.

Wurdeman, Women's Hoops Sweep NEWMAC Honors
After posting the conference's first-ever 18-0 regular season and winning its second straight league championship, the Babson College women's basketball team was well-rewarded when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released its postseason honors this week. Sophomore Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) was named NEWMAC Player of the Year, both Wurdeman and sophomore Kathleen King (Framingham, Mass.) were named All-Conference First Team, first-year Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass.) was named NEWMAC Rookie of the Year and All-Conference Second Team, and legendary head coach Judy Blinstrub was named NEWMAC Coach of the Year for the second straight season. In addition, junior Kristy Benoit (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was named NEWMAC Academic All-Conference for the second year in a row.

King Earns NEWMAC Player of the Week Honors
After powering her team to its second straight conference championship and NCAA Tournament berth, Babson College sophomore forward Kathleen King (Framingham, Mass.) has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week. It is her second weekly honor of the season. In three tournament games this week, King averaged 18.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 2.0 steals per game while shooting .568 from the field (21-37) and .667 from the free throw line (12-18). She saved her finest performance of the season for Sunday's championship game, as she recorded 17 points and 15 rebounds, including a clutch steal and four straight free throws in the final minute, as the Beavers defeated WPI, 61-56.

Women's Hoops To Face Emmanuel In NCAA Tournament First Round At Colby
The NCAA released its official Division III Women's Basketball Tournament bracket on Monday afternoon, and the NEWMAC Champion Babson College Beavers will head to Colby College in Waterville, Maine where they will face Emmanuel College in the opening round on Friday night. The winner of that first round game will advance to Saturday's second round, where they will meet either Husson College or the host Mules. All game times will be announced on Tuesday. Babson (25-3) is making its second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance after repeating as champions of the NEWMAC this past weekend. With conference tournament wins over Coast Guard, Wheaton, and WPI, the Beavers finished the season with a perfect 21-0 mark against league foes. The is the program's fifth NCAA Tournament appearance overall. The team has posted a record of 2-4 in its previous four showings, including a 77-54 loss to eventual National Semifinalist Amherst College last winter.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL BEATS WPI, 61-56, TO WIN SECOND STRAIGHT NEWMAC CHAMPIONSHIP
The Babson College women’s basketball team secured its second consecutive conference championship with a 61-56 victory over visiting WPI in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament Finals at Babson’s Staake Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the top-seeded Beavers (25-3) extended their program record winning streak to 17 games and secured their fifth NCAA Division III Tournament berth. With sophomore Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) and first-year Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass.) hampered by foul trouble throughout the contest, Babson’s sophomore Kathleen King (Framingham, Mass.) stepped up with her best game of the season. The star forward poured in 17 points and grabbed 15 rebounds while shooting 5-for-11 from the field and 7-for-8 from the free throw line. King was especially huge in the final minute, recording a pivotal steal at midcourt, grabbing a game-clinching defensive rebound, and hitting all four of her free throws.

Top-Seeded Women's Basketball Tops #4 Wheaton, 68-55, To Advance To NEWMAC Championship Game; #2 WPI Holds Off #6 Wellesley
Top-seeded Babson College used an 11-0 run midway through the second half to pull away from fourth-seeded Wheaton College as the Beavers defeated the Lyons, 68-55, in the semifinal round of the 2010 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women’s Basketball Tournament at Babson’s Staake Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Babson (24-3) set a new program record with its 16th straight victory while advancing to its second consecutive conference championship game. The Beavers will now face second-seeded WPI in the finals on Sunday at 1 p.m. after the Engineers held off sixth-seeded Wellesley, 56-46, in Saturday’s second semifinal contest.

Top-Seeded Women's Basketball Eliminates Coast Guard, 75-26 in NEWMAC Quarterfinals
The Babson College women’s basketball team began the defense of its 2009 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) title in impressive fashion on Wednesday night, as the top-seeded Beavers defeated the eighth-seeded United States Coast Guard Academy, 75-26, in the quarterfinals of the 2010 NEWMAC Championship Tournament. The Beavers, who matched the longest win streak in program history with their 15th consecutive victory, improved to 23-3 and will move on to host both the semifinals and finals this weekend. Babson will play fourth-seeded Wheaton in the first semifinal matchup on Saturday at 1 p.m., while sixth-seeded Wellesley will face either second-seeded WPI or seventh-seeded Mount Holyoke in the second semifinal at 3 p.m. The two winners will then meet in the Championship Game on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Four Winter Teams Set For Postseason Play
Four of Babson's winter sports are set to head into postseason play this week, as men's and women's basketball, ice hockey, and men's swimming and diving enter their respective conference championships. Headlining this week's competition will be the women's basketball team, which finished the regular season with a record of 22-3 overall and became the first team in NEWMAC history to go 18-0 in league play. The Beavers, who have won 14 straight games - the second longest streak in program history - are the top seed in the NEWMAC Tournament, and will begin their defense of their 2009 NEWMAC title with a home quarterfinal game against eighth-seeded Coast Guard Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Tickets will be $4 for adults, $2 for senior citizens, and $1 for students with IDs, with Babson students being admitted free of charge courtesy of the Student Government Association.

Collins Named NEWMAC Player of the Week
After helping her team complete the first 18-0 regular season in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) history, Babson College first-year Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass.) has been named the NEWMAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week. It is the first such honor for the rookie forward/center, and the fifth for a Babson women's hoop player this winter. One of the league's top candidates for NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, Collins was outstanding in a 2-0 week for Babson, averaging 14.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals, 1.5 assists, and 2.0 blocks per game while helping to fill the void left by injured leading scorer Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.). For the week, Collins shot a spectacular .722 from the field, hitting 13 of 18 field goal attempts. She also shot .750 from the free throw line, knocking down three of her four attempts.

Women's Basketball Finishes Perfect NEWMAC Regular Season With 65-30 Blowout Of Mount Holyoke
Babson College capped off its first-ever perfect regular season in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday, as the Beavers defeated visiting Mount Holyoke College, 65-30, to improve to 22-3 overall and 18-0 in the league. Babson, which extended its overall winning streak to 14 – tied for the second longest in program history, is just the eighth team in conference history to go unbeaten in league play and the first to do so with a conference schedule of 10 or more games. Playing without injured sophomore and leading scorer Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.), the Beavers were bolstered by the superb play of first-year Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass.), who scored 16 points, grabbed five rebounds, and blocked three shots while shooting 8-for-9 from the field. Babson also received an outstanding performance from senior tri-captain Sarah Hughes (Wellesley, Mass.), who recorded two points, a team-high eight rebounds, two assists, and one steal in the final regular season game of her collegiate career.

Women's Hoops Blows Past Clark, 65-42, For 13th Straight Win
The Babson College women’s basketball team bridged the first and second halves with an 18-2 run as the Beavers remained unbeaten in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play with a 65-42 win over visiting Clark University on Saturday night. With their 13th straight victory, the Beavers improved to 21-3 overall and 17-0 in the conference, while Clark fell to 4-20 overall and 3-14 in the NEWMAC. Babson was led by the inside duo of first-year Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass.) and junior Damisi Adewumi (Bronz, N.Y.), who both finished with 13 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Kathleen King (Framingham, Mass.) finished a strong all-around effort with nine points, 12 rebounds, three assists, two blocks shots, and three steals, and first-year Jessica Aruda (Hanover, Mass.) added eight points, three assists, and three steals in a standout performance off the bench.

Dominating Second Half Sends Women’s Basketball Past Coast Guard, 80-45
The Beavers of Babson College shot 61.1 percent and outscored their opponents 49-17 in the second half to beat the host Bears of the United States Coast Guard Academy by a final score of 80-45 to remain unbeaten in conference play with the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) win. Sophomore Nicole Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) led the Beavers with 18 points while first-year Allanah Wynn (Milton, Mass.) and classmate Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass.) each added 12 points in the win. Collins also had a game-high 10 rebounds in the win while Wynn had a game-high five assists.

Women's Basketball Overpowers Wellesley, 71-44
Babson College opened the game with a 23-8 run and never looked back as the Beavers defeated cross-town rival Wellesley College, 71-44, in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference women’s basketball action at Babson’s Staake Gymnasium on Thursday night. With the win, the Beavers extended their win streak to 11 games while improving to 19-3 overall and a perfect 15-0 in NEWMAC play. Wellesley saw its four-game win streak come to a halt as the Blue dipped to 8-12 overall and 6-9 in the conference. Sophomore Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) led Babson with 24 points and six rebounds, while first-year Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass.) added 15 points, five boards, and four blocked shots. Sophomore Kathleen King (Framingham, Mass.) also had a big game with nine points, eight caroms, and four assists, and junior Damisi Adewumi (Bronx, N.Y.) chipped in with six points and three rebounds off the bench.

Women's Basketball Officially Clinches Top Seed In NEWMAC Tournament
With its 59-49 victory over WPI and a loss by Wheaton this past Saturday, the Babson College women's basketball team officially clinched the top seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament. The Beavers, the first team in conference history to start out 14-0 in league play, are winners of 10 straight and are 18-3 overall. Babson will be seeking its second straight conference title when it hosts the eighth seed in the quarterfinal round on Wednesday, February 24, at 7 p.m.

Wurdeman Leads Women's Basketball Past WPI, 59-49
Sophomore Nicole Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) tallied 20 points and hauled in six rebounds to help Babson remain undefeated in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play with a 59-49 road win over host WPI on Saturday afternoon. With the result, the Beavers are now 18-3 overall and a perfect 14-0 in conference play. WPI dips to 13-8 on the season and 9-5 in NEWMAC action. Wynn netted 12 points for the Beavers while sophomore Kathleen King (Framingham, Mass.) added eight points and eight boards. Junior Damisi Adewumi (Bronx, N.Y.) dished out three assists for Babson, who had six players hand out multiple helpers on the day.

Women's Hoops Subdues MIT, 59-29
Babson used a 16-3 run over the final 7:38 of the first half to pull away from visiting MIT on Wednesday night, as the Beavers went on to defeat the Engineers, 59-29, in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest at Staake Gymnasium. With their ninth win in a row, the Beavers upped their overall record to 17-3 and remained unbeaten in the conference at 13-0. Babson was led by sophomore Kathleen King (Framingham, Mass.), who scored 12 points, grabbed boards, and dished out four assists, and first-year Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass.), who finished with 10 points, five boards, and three blocked shots. Sophomore Michelle Kenel (Rockaway Beach, N.J.) chipped in with eight points and three assists, junior Damisi Adewumi (Bronx, N.Y.) amassed six points and six caroms, and sophomore Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) added four points and seven rebounds.

Wurdeman Earns Third NEWMAC Player of the Week Honor
For the third time this season, Babson College sophomore Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) has been named the NEWMAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week. In yet another 2-0 week for the Beavers, Wurdeman averaged 19.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 blocks, and 2.0 steals per game while shooting .630 (17-27) from the field. On Wednesday, she recorded 17 points, four boards, seven blocks, three steals, and two assists to help the Beavers rally from an eight-point halftime deficit en route to a 69-50 win at Wheaton. Then on Saturday, she netted 22 points to go with nine rebounds, a block, and a steal in just 22 minutes of a 67-36 win at Smith.

Women's Hoops Powers Past Smith, 67-36
The Babson College women's basketball team continued its domination of the NEWMAC on Saturday, as the Beavers picked up a convincing 67-36 road victory over Smith College. With the win, Babson improved to 16-3 overall and remained perfect in the conference at 12-0, while the Pioneers dipped to 9-8 overall and 6-6 in league play. Babson was overpowering at the defensive end, holding Smith to just 15 first-half points on its way to a 36-15 halftime lead. The Pioneers never threatened in the second half, as the Beavers cruised to the 31-point victory. Sophomore Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) posed 22 points and nine rebounds to pace the Green and White, while first-year Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass.) turned in a spectacuar all-around performance with six points, 12 rebounds, four assists, four steals, and two blocked shots.

Strong Second Half Send Women's Basketball Past Wheaton
The Wheaton College women's basketball team dropped its second game of the season to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) leader Babson College on Wednesday night, suffering a 69-50 setback after holding a 38-30 halftime edge in Emerson Gymnasium. Falling to 11-7 overall and 8-3 in league play, the Lyons are now tied with Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) for second place in the conference standings, while the Beavers extended their winning streak to seven games while improving to 15-3 and 11-0 in the NEWMAC.

Four different players hit double figures for the Babson College women’s basketball team on Saturday, as the Beavers remained unbeaten in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play with a 74-54 victory over visiting Springfield College. Babson has now won six straight contests to improve to 14-3 overall and a perfect 10-0 in the NEWMAC. Sophomores Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) and Kathleen King (Framingham, Mass.) once again paced the Beavers, with Wurdeman scoring a game-high 19 points and King netting 16 to go with a game-best nine rebounds. First-year Allanah Wynn (Quincy, Mass.) contributed 12 points and classmate Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass.) added 11 points and five steals in the victory.

Babson Athletics To Accept Donations Toward Haiti Relief Effort At Saturday's Basketball Doubleheader
The Babson College men's and women's basketball teams have announced that they will be taking donations at this weekend's double-header to help relief efforts in earthquake-stricken Haiti. The women's team will kick off the day with a 1 p.m. matchup against Springfield, with the men's team following with a game against Clark at 3 p.m. As part of this event, which is part of a larger campus-wide relief effort spearheaded by the Bernon Center, Babson will be collecting donations of clothing, medical supplies, and cash to be given to GHESKIO to purchase medicine and other necessary supplies in Haiti.

Women's Hoops Rolls Over Clark, 80-51
Powered by the interior dominance of sophomores Kathleen King (Framingham, Mass.) and Nicole Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.), Babson cruised to an 80-51 win over host Clark on Wednesday evening at the Kneller Athletic Center in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference women’s basketball action. With the win, the Beavers extend their winning streak to five games and more importantly improve to 13-3 overall and remain undefeated in league action at 9-0. Conversely, the Cougars drop to 3-13 overall and 2-7 in NEWMAC action and have now dropped five consecutive contests.

Wurdeman Earns Back-to-Back NEWMAC Player of the Week Awards
Babson College sophomore Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second consecutive week while helping the Beavers remain undefeated in conference play with a NEWMAC record of 8-0. This past week Wurdeman recorded back-to-back double-doubles in leading the Beavers to two more NEWMAC victories. Averaging 15.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.5 blocks per game, the sophomore forward shot 47.8 percent (11-23) from the field and 77.8 percent (7-9) from the free throw line.

Babson College sophomores Kathleen King (Framingham, Mass.), Michelle Kenel (Rockaway Beach, N.J.), and Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) combined for 43 points on 18-of-27 shooting as the Beavers remained unbeaten in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) with a 76-52 win over visiting Coast Guard at Babson’s Staake Gymnasium on Saturday. King led Babson (12-3 overall, 8-0 NEWMAC) with 16 points (7-of-10 shooting) and nine rebounds, Kenel added 15 points (7-of-8), and Wurdeman notched a double-double with 12 points (4-of-9) and 10 boards. First-year Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass.) chipped in with eight points, four rebounds, and two blocks off the bench, junior co-captain Becky Bowman (Melrose, Mass.) dished out a game-high seven assists, and junior Damisi Adewumi (Bronx, N.Y.) continued her strong play with six points and eight boards.

Women's Hoops Overwhelms Wellesley, 72-46
Babson College used a strong inside performance from Nicole Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) to defeat crosstown rival Wellesley College this evening at Keohane Sports Center. The 72-46 win lifts the Beavers to 11-3 overall and 7-0 in the NEWMAC, while Wellesley drops to 3-9 overall, 1-6 in conference play. Wurdeman led all players with 18 points and 13 rebounds, while fellow sophomore Kathleen King added 13 points and nine rebounds. First-year Sarah Collins and junior Damisi Adewumi tallied 12 points each.

Wurdeman Named NEWMAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Babson College sophomore Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week for her outstanding play in this past week’s games for her first award of the season. Wurdeman helped Babson post a 2-1 record this week, including a 2-0 mark in NEWMAC play. She led the Beavers in nearly every statistical category, averaging team-highs with 17.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.7 blocks, and 2.0 steals per game while shooting .700 (21-30) from the field and .615 (8-13) from the free throw line.

Women's Hoops Overpowers Mount Holyoke, 73-28
The Babson College women’s basketball team breezed to a 73-28 victory over New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Mount Holyoke College this afternoon at the Mildred Howard Gymnasium. With their third straight win over the Lyons, the Beavers improved to a perfect 6-0 in league play. Twelve players scored points from Babson, which converted 55.8% (29-52) of its shots from the field and 91.7% (11-12) of its free throw attempts. The Beavers racked up eight blocked shots and posted a 38-22 advantage on the glass. Leading the way was sophomore center Nicole Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass./Triton Regional), who netted 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor. Junior guard Becky Bowman (Melrose, Mass./Arlington Catholic) recorded 11 points, while first-year center Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) added eight boards and three blocks off the bench.

Women's Hoops Remains Perfect In NEWMAC Play With 77-54 Win At Springfield
Junior captain Becky Bowman (Melrose, Mass.) scored 20 points and sophomore Nicole Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) added 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Babson College women's basketball team to a 77-54 victory over Springfield College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference game this evening at SC's Blake Arena. With the win, Babson raises its overall record to 9-3 and remains unbeaten in league play at 5-0. The Beavers had two others score in double figures in the win. They included first-year forward Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass.), who scored 12 points to go with 11 rebounds, and sophomore forward Kathleen King (Framingham, Mass.), who added 10 points and five boards.

Beavers Fall to Eastern Connecticut, 73-63
Eastern Connecticut State University jumped out to an early 17-2 lead and never looked back Monday, cruising to a 73-63 win over Babson in the championship game of the 2010 Williams College Winter Classic. The Beavers Nicole Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) led all scorers with 18 points, while Kathleen King (Framingham, Mass.) added 16. Wurdeman posted a double-double, adding 10 rebounds to her day. She was an all-tournament selection. Also chipping in for the Beavers was sophomore guard Michelle Kenel (Rockaway Beach, N.J.) who added 11 points and six rebounds while first-year Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass.) added nine points. The Beavers are now 8-3 on the season.

Women's Hoops Tops Regional Power RIC, 75-72, At Williams Tourney
Babson College went on a 16-2 run to close its game with Rhode Island College Sunday, rallying from an 11-point deficit to post a 75-72 win in the opening contest of the 2010 Williams College Winter Classic. Babson’s first-year guard Allanah Wynn drained a 12-foot jumper from the baseline with 9.1 seconds remaining, giving the Beavers the lead at 73-72. After a missed three by RIC’s Stephanie Coro, Babson’s Michelle Kenel hit two free throws with 1.1 seconds remaining to account for the final score.

Second-Half Run Sends Women's Hoops Past WPI, 68-58
Sophomore Michelle Kenel (Rockaway Beach, N.J.) and junior captain Becky Bowman (Melrose, Mass.) each scored five points during a pivotal 10-0 second-half run as the Babson College women’s basketball team defeated visiting WPI, 68-58, in a battle of New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) unbeatens on Friday night. With their seventh win in eight games, the Beavers improved to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in the conference, while the Engineers fell to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the NEWMAC. Kenel and first-year Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass.) each scored 12 points off the bench to pace Babson, while Collins also added nine rebounds and three steals. Bowman finished with 11 points in the win, first-year Allanah Wynn (Quincy, Mass.) contributed 10 points and four assists, and sophomore Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) chipped in with eight points and game-high 12 rebounds. Also turning in stellar performances off the bench for the Beavers were junior Damasi Adewumi (Bronx, N.Y.), who recorded six points and six rebounds, and first-year Jessica Aruda (Hanover, Mass.), who dished out a game-high six assists.

A 17-2 run during the first six minutes of the second half helped power Babson College to a 75-30 win over host MIT in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s basketball game on Wednesday. Becky Bowman, one of four Beavers to reach double-digits, notched 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting in addition to five assists and five steals. Sophomore Nicki Wurdeman tallied 11 rebounds, 10 points, and three blocks, and first-year Kelsey Olivere totaled 11 points, four rebounds, and three steals. first-year Sarah Collins bolstered the Beavers’ outing with 10 points and five boards.

Salem State Snaps Women's Hoops' Win Streak With 79-69 Win
First-year Madeleine Park (Blue Hill, Maine) erupted for a career-high 24 points and senior Danielle Jenkins (Marlborough, Mass.) added 17 to lead the visiting Salem State College Vikings to a 79-69 victory over the host Babson College Beavers in a non-conference women’s basketball game at Staake Gymnasium on Monday night. With the win, Salem State (3-3) snapped a brief two-game slide while Babson (5-2) saw its five-game win streak come to a halt. Babson was led in defeat by sophomore Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.), who scored a game-high 25 points despite being hampered by foul trouble throughout the contest. The second-year star shot 10-for-13 from the floor, including 3-of-4 from three-point range, while also collecting five rebounds and blocking three shots. Sophomore Kathleen King (Framingham, Mass.) also had a big offensive game for the Beavers, scoring 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting, while sophomore Becky Bowman (Melrose, Mass.) added 10 points and five assists while hitting five of her seven shots from the field.

King Garners NEWMAC Player of the Week Honors
Babson College sophomore forward Kathleen King (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) was named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday. It was her first such honor this season. King averaged 16.3 points, 13.0 rebounds, and 3.3 steals per game in a 3-0 week for Babson. The sophomore forward shot .474 from the field (18-38) and .765 from the free throw line (13-17) while recording a pair of double-doubles. She recorded 19 points, 13 boards, and three steals in a 62-48 win over Worcester State on Monday, and then tallied eight points, six rebounds, and three steals in a 70-58 victory over Wheaton on Wednesday. King finished the week with a monster game against Smith on Saturday, as she finished with 22 points, 14 boards, and four steals in a 72-60 Babson win.

With their fifth straight win, the Beavers improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while the Pioneers fell to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the NEWMAC. King shot 10-for-20 from the floor for her game-high 22 points, while also leading all players with 14 boards, including eight off the offensive glass. Women's Basketball Opens NEWMAC Schedule With 70-58 Win Over Wheaton
First-year Allanah Wynn (Quincy, Mass.) scored a career-high 15 points and sophomore Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) and first-year Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass.) each added double-doubles as the Babson College women’s basketball team earned a 70-58 victory over visiting Wheaton College in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup at Staake Gymnasium on Wednesday night. It was the first conference game of the season for both teams. Wynn was magnificent at point guard for Babson (4-1, 1-0 NEWMAC), hitting three of her eight three-point attempts on her way to a career-best 15 points. Collins was equally brilliant in the paint, posting 11 points, 14 rebounds, and four blocked shots, while Wurdeman also notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards. Junior captain Becky Bowman (Melrose, Mass.) chipped in with 14 points and three steals for Babson, and sophomore Kathleen King (Framingham, Mass.) tossed in eight points, grabbed six rebounds, and recorded three steals.

Blinstrub Inducted Into Northeast Hall Of Fame
Longtime Babson College coach and Associate Athletic Director Judy Blinstrub received yet another major honor recently, as she was inducted into the Northeast "Advancing The Role Of Girls and Womens In Sport" Hall of Fame in a ceremony held at Woodland Country Club on November 1. According to the event's official press release, "Northeast is an organization which endeavors to promote the advancement of girls and women in sports throughout New England." Without question, legendary department member Blinstrub fits that bill, as she has served as a Babson coach and administrator for more than a quarter of a century. Now in her 26th season as head coach of the women's basketball program, Blinstrub also coached the women's soccer team for 21 seasons before stepping down from that position in 2004, and she has served as the department's Association Direcor of Athletics for over a decade.

With the win, the Beavers improved to 3-1 on the year. King led all players with 19 points and 13 rebounds while also recording three steals. Wurdeman chipped in with 11 points, 12 boards, and four blocked shots, and Collins added 14 points, nine caroms, and three steals. Sophomore Michelle Kenel contributed six points and four rebounds in the win, and junior captains Becky Bowman and Amanda Grammel dished out three assists apiece.

Women's Basketball Wins Stevens Tip Off Tournament with 66-56 Victory Over Host Ducks
The Babson College women’s basketball team went on a 17-0 run to start the second half on their way to a 66-56 victory over Stevens Institute of Technology to win the 2009 Stevens Tip-Off Tournament. Sophomore Kathleen King (Framingham, Mass.) and junior tri-captain Becky Bowman (Melrose, Mass.) were both named to the All-Tournament Team and King was also named Tournament MVP. In the win, King led the Beavers with 17 points and 12 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. With the win, Babson improves to 2-1 on the season and the Ducks of Stevens are now 3-1. The Beavers return to action November 30th when they travel to Worcester State College for a 7pm game.

Sophomore Kathleen King recorded 19 points and 13 rebounds and junior captain Becky Bowman added 15 points as the Babson women's basketball team crushed Wesleyan University, 66-37, in the semifinals of the Stevens Institute of Technology Tip-Off Tournament on Friday night. With the win, the Beavers evened their record at 1-1 and earned a trip to Saturday's title game against host Stevens at 8 p.m.

Chapin, No. 9 Brandeis Too Much For Women's Basketball In Season Opener
Senior guard Jessica Chapin (Mendon, N.Y.) scored 33 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the nationally-ranked Brandeis University Judges to a hard-fought 68-58 victory over host Babson College in a matchup of regional women’s basketball rivals at Babson’s Staake Gymnasium on Tuesday night. With the win, Brandeis, ranked ninth in the D3hoops.com preseason poll, improved to 2-0, while the Beavers lost their opener to fall to 0-1. Sophomore Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) was outstanding in defeat for Babson, scoring 23 points to go with six boards and five blocked shots. First-year Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass.) added 10 points, six rebounds, and four blocks off the bench, and first-year Allanah Wynn (Quincy, Mass.) contributed six points and three assists.

2009-10 Season Preview: Women's Basketball
With all but three players from last year’s roster returning, including all five starters, the 2009 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Champion Babson College women’s basketball team is looking to stay on top of the league this winter. Ending last season with an overall record of 20-9, the Beavers are coming off the fourth appearance to the NCAA Division III Tournament in the program’s 35-year history.
