Women's Hoops Extends NEWMAC Streak With 74-54 Win Over Springfield

BOX SCORE

BABSON PARK, Mass. - Four different players hit double figures for the Babson College women's basketball team on Saturday, as the Beavers remained unbeaten in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play with a 74-54 victory over visiting Springfield College. Babson has now won six straight contests to improve to 14-3 overall and a perfect 10-0 in the NEWMAC, while the Pride saw their four-game win streak come to an end as they fell to 8-9 overall and 6-4 in the conference.

Sophomores Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) and Kathleen King (Framingham, Mass.) once again paced the Beavers, with Wurdeman scoring a game-high 19 points and King netting 16 to go with a game-best nine rebounds. First-year Allanah Wynn (Quincy, Mass.) contributed 12 points and classmate Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass.) added 11 points and five steals in the victory.

Springfield was led by junior Amelia Sapowsky (Ware, Mass.), who finished with 14 points and four rebounds, and sophomore Kelly Murphy (Mechanicville, N.Y.), who tallied six points and three assists.

The Pride held their own early on, leading by as many as four at 22-18 with just over seven minutes left in the opening half. However, Babson answered with an 18-5 run - including 10 straight points to end the half - to build a 36-27 lead heading into the locker room. Springfield then cut their deficit to six twice in the opening three minutes of the second half, but that would be as close as the visitors would get as Babson pulled away for the 74-54 win.
