BABSON PARK, Mass. -- After leading the Babson College women's basketball team to a program-record 28 wins and its first-ever trip to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division III Tournament, sophomore forward Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass./Triton Regional) capped off her incredible season by earning All-America Honors from multiple organizations this winter. Wurdeman was named Third Team All-America by D3hoops.com and Honorable Mention All-America by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) in conjunction with State Farm.
Wurdeman's national honors come after a brilliant season that saw her average 15.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, 1.0 assists, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 59.0 percent (186-315) from the field, 45.7 percent (16-35) from three-point range, and 68.6 percent (83-121) from the free throw line. She recorded nine double-doubles on the season, and she was especially clutch in the Beavers' four NCAA Tournament games, averaging 21.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game while hitting 67.3 percent (33-49) of her field goal attempts.
The regional and national honors keep piling up for Wurdeman, who was recently named the 2010 NEWMAC Player of Year, NEWMAC All-Conference First Team, NEWBA All-Region First Team, ECAC All-New England Second Team, and D3hoops.com All-Northeast Region First Team. She was also named All-NEWMAC First Team, NEWBA All-Region Second Team, and D3hoops.com All-Northeast Second Team while earning NEWMAC, NEWBA, ECAC New England, and D3hoops.com Northeast Rookie of the Year honors as a first-year in 2008-09.
At the midway point of her career, Wurdeman is already 13th on Babson's all-time scoring list with 942 points in 60 games played. Her average of 15.7 points per contest is third highest in program history behind Athletics Hall of Famers Judy Pearson '85 (20.9) and Michele Merten '95 (17.2). Wurdeman also joins Merten is the only two All-Americans in program history after Merten received Kodak Honorable Mention All-America honors in both 1994 and 1995.
