BABSON PARK, Mass. – Senior captain Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass.) recorded her Division III-leading 13th double-double of the season to help lead the nationally-ranked Babson College to a 70-62 win over visiting Clark University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's basketball action at Stake Gymnasium on Wednesday night.
Collins led all players with 19 points, 19 rebounds, and six blocked shots for the Beavers (14-1 overall, 9-0 NEWMAC), who entered the week ranked 20th in the nation by D3hoops.com and 18th by USA Today. Senior captain Allanah Wynn (Quincy, Mass.) and first-year Kristen Ferola (Amherst, Mass.) each added several big shots for Babson to finish with 11 points apiece, and first-year Linnett Graber (Roseland, N.J.) pulled down 12 rebounds and dished out four assists.
Clark (9-7 overall, 4-5 NEWMAC) was paced by rookie Brooke Brennan (Weston, Mass.), who hit six three-pointers for 18 points, and junior Ashleigh Condon (Hull, Mass.), who added 17 points. Junior Emily Reilly (Marlborough, Mass.) chipped in with 12 points, as she became the 18th player in Clark women's basketball history to reach the 1,000-point plateau.
Trailing 31-28 at the break, Babson opened the second half with a 17-2 run that featured five points from Wynn and four apiece from Graber and Collins to go up 45-33. The lead later ballooned to as many as 16, and despite a late Clark surge that cut the advantage to just five with under a minute to go, the Beavers held on for the 70-62 victory.
