WESTWOOD, Mass.—The Babson College women's basketball team was picked to finish first for the second time in three seasons when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released its preseason coaches' poll on Thursday morning.
The Beavers, who have won back-to-back regular season league titles, collected five first-place votes to finish ahead of second-place MIT, which garnered four first-place votes. WPI came in third, while Smith College earned two first-place votes to finish fourth.
The Green and White returns nine players from a team that finished 24-6 and reached the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 last season. The Beavers, who have won 20 or more games in eight of the last nine years, also captured their seventh NEWAMC Tournament crown since 2009 last winter.
Babson opens the 2017-18 campaign against Saint Joseph's (Maine) College in the first round of the Keene State College Tournament on Friday, November 17, at 6 p.m.
