BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College junior Payton Ouimette (Medfield, Mass.) was selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
In her only game of the week, Ouimette put up 10 points and pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds to record her 17th double-double of the year as the Beavers clinched a share of their third consecutive NEWMAC regular season title by beating MIT, 56-53. She scored six points and grabbed five boards in the pivotal fourth quarter the featured two ties and a pair of lead changes.
Ouimette, who has been selected as the league's offensive and defensive player of the week on three occasions apiece this winter, is averaging 13.6 points and 11.9 rebounds while shooting 50.4 percent from the floor. She is tied for 13th in Division III in double-doubles and ranks 18th nationally in rebounding.
Babson (17-8), which earned the third seed in this week's NEWMAC Tournament, hosts sixth-seeded Emerson in a quarterfinal on Wednesday at 6 p.m. inside Staake Gymnasium.
