WESTWOOD, Mass.—After winning a share of its third consecutive New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season title, the Babson College women's basketball team was picked to finish second when the league released its preseason coaches' poll on Wednesday morning.
Defending tournament champions MIT garnered seven of 11 first-place votes to finish atop the poll for the first time. The Beavers earned one first-place vote to finish as the runner-up ahead of third-place Smith College, which was first on three ballots. Springfield College and WPI rounded out the top five.
The Green and White returns 13 players, including its its top four scorers, from a team that went 18-9 overall and 13-3 in conference play last winter. Babson advanced to the NEWMAC Tournament semifinals for the 10th consecutive year and defeated three teams that reached the NCAA Tournament in 2017-18.
The Beavers open the 2018-19 campaign against Baldwin Wallace College at the Chuck Resler Tournament hosted by the University of Rochester on November 17.
