WESTWOOD, Mass.—The Babson College women's basketball team received five first-place votes and came in second when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its annual preseason coaches' poll on Tuesday afternoon.
The Beavers came in just behind Springfield College, which also garnered five first-place votes to finish atop the poll after reaching last year's conference tournament final. Two-time defending NEWMAC Tournament champions MIT came in third, while Emerson College and WPI rounded out the top five. Smith College, which collected the only other first-place vote, was sixth.
The Green and White brings back two of its top three scorers after going 21-5 overall and 14-2 in league play on the way to claiming a share of its fourth consecutive NEWMAC regular season title last winter. The Beavers, who must replace three starters, have won 20 or more games in nine of the last 11 seasons under head coach Judy Blinstrub.
Babson opens the season against Union at UMass Dartmouth's LaFrance Hospitality Tournament on November 16 at 7:30 p.m.
