Five From Babson Field Hockey Earn NFHCA National Academic Honors
The Babson College field hockey team was honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) for academic excellence this past week. The team earned the Division III National Academic Team Award for having a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Daniella Lobo, Kimberly Calhoun, Colleen Kelly, Alyssa L'Bassi and Emily Cohen were also honored for success in the classroom and having a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or higher earning them NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad Honors.

Fredlund, Kelly and Paladino Earn All-Region Honors
Three Babson College field hockey players have earned All-Region honors following the 2009 fall season. Senior captain Jessica Paladino (Turner, Maine), junior captain Colleen Kelly (Milton, Mass.) and junior Sarah Fredlund (New Preston, Conn.) have all been named to the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) New England East Region First Team. Kelly also earned Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Regional First Team honors and Fredlund and Paladino were named to the second team.

Babson Athletes Give Back This Fall
This fall the Babson athletic teams not only performed on the field and in the classroom, but they also gave back to the community in many different ways. Several teams participated in community service events that benefited many organizations including the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, the Make-a-Wish Foundation, and the Jimmy Fund. Im extremely proud of everything our athletes have done and continue to do within the community, said Director of Athletics Josh MacArthur. These young men and women have tremendous demands on their time and energy, and yet they still make the effort to give back in whatever way they can. They genuinely thrive on touching the lives of others, and in doing so they serve as wonderful ambassadors for Babson College and our athletics program.

NEWMAC Releases Fall All-Academic Teams; 12 Beavers Honored
The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has officially announced its fall Academic All-Conference Teams, and a total of 13 Babson College athletes were recognized. Representing the Beavers with All-Academic honors were senior Kristen Lang (Kennebunk, Maine), sophomore Wendy Glickenhouse (Red Hook, N.Y.), sophomore Kyle Fitzpatrick (Toledo, Ohio), and sophomore Mike Smith (Brockton, Mass.) of cross country; senior Emiley Cohen (West Grove, Pa.), senior Alyssa L'Bassi (Shrewsbury, Mass.), and junior Colleen Kelly (Milton, Mass.) of field hockey; seniors Dan Fogarty (Brookeline, N.H.) and Sean Gleason (Clinton, N.Y.) of men's soccer; junior Katy Alea (Southborough, Mass.), junior Laura Duston (Nashua, N.H.), and sophomore Alexa Untermann (Honolulu, Hawaii) of volleyball; and junior Kristy Benoit (Shrewsbury, Mass.) of women's soccer.

Paladino Chosen To Play In NFHCA Senior All-Star Game
After becoming just the second player in Babson College field hockey history to earn NEWMAC Player of the Year honors, senior captain Jessica Paladino (Turner, Maine) will now represent the Beavers in the 2009 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Senior All-Star Game. Paladino will join 37 other senior all-starts from across the nation in the event, which will take place at Mount Holyoke College on Sunday, November 22, at 9;30 a.m. as part of National Championship Weekend.

Paladino Named NEWMAC Player of the Year; Kelly and Fredlund Also Honored
The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its 2009 postseason awards on Tuesday, and Babson College senior captain Jessica Paladino (Turner, Maine) became just the second player in program history to earn conference Player of the Year honors. Paladino was also named All-NEWMAC First Team along with junior captain Colleen Kelly (Milton, Mass.) and junior Sarah Fredlund (New Preston, Conn.).

MIT Ousts Field Hockey, 3-0, In NEWMAC Quarterfinals
MIT received goals from Kimberly Barker, Danielle Smith and Kameron Klauber, along with a stellar effort in net by Keri Dixon, to defeat visiting Babson, 3-0, in a New England Womens and Mens Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey quarterfinal on Saturday at Jack Barry Field. With the win, the Engineers (15-4) avenge an overtime loss to the Beavers in the regular season and advance to the NEWMAC Semifinals for the first time since 2003. Babsons season comes to a close at 11-8.

WPI Stuns Field Hockey, 3-2
Junior Meghan Linskey (Bridgewater, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal with 3:56 left in regulation to lift the visiting WPI field hockey team to a stunning 3-2 victory over host Babson College in the final game of the New England Womens and Mens Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season at Babsons MacDowell Field on Tuesday night. With the win, the Engineers improve to 11-5 overall and 5-3 in conference play, while the Beavers enter the postseason at 11-7 overall and 4-4 in the NEWMAC.

Field Hockey Explodes Past WNEC, 7-2
Junior forward Sarah Fredlund (New Preston, CT) scored two goals and had an assist as Babson powered by the Western New England College field hockey team, 7-2, in a non-league contest on Saturday at Golden Bear Stadium. Senior captain Jess Paladino (Turner, Maine) also scored two goals for Babson, which improved to 11-6) overall.

Field Hockey Storms Past Connecticut College, 5-3
The Babson College field hockey team scored five unanswered goals in a 24-minute stretch to surge past visiting Connecticut College, 5-3, in a non-conference contest at Babsons MacDowell Field on Thursday afternoon. Junior Sarah Fredlund (New Preston, Conn.) scored two of Babsons goals, while senior captain Jess Paladino (Turner, Maine), junior captain Colleen Kelly (Milton, Mass.), and sophomore Courtney Weaving (New Preston, Conn.) each scored once. Paladino also dished out an assist in the victory, as did sophomore Kristen Steigerwald (North Andover, Mass.). Sophomore goalie Jess Pashos (Winchester, Mass.) made two saves in 64 minutes of action, while senior Emily Cohen (West Grove, Pa.) made one key stop in the final six minutes.

Field Hockey Suffers 4-2 Setback At Wellesley
Seniors Callie Lekas and Molly Morrow each scored a pair of goals to lead the Wellesley College field hockey team to a 4-2 NEWMAC victory over cross-town rival, Babson College. Wellesley improves to 10-6 overall, with a 5-1 conference mark, while Babson stands at 9-6, 4-3 in the NEWMAC. Senior captain Jess Paladino and junior captain Colleen Kelly each scored goals for the Beavers, while sophomore goalie Jessica Pashos finished with seven total saves in net.

Mount Holyoke Hands Field Hockey 2-0 Loss
The Mount Holyoke College field hockey team rolled to a 2-0 triumph over Babson College in New England Womens and Mens Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at the Mount Holyoke Turf Field this afternoon. It was the Lyons first victory over Babson since the 2005 season, when they prevailed 3-2 in overtime. The Lyons handed Babsons high powered offense its first shutout of the 2009 campaign. The Beavers entered the match leading the NEWMAC in scoring.

Field Hockey Holds Off Wheaton, 3-2
Babson College jumped out to a 3-0 lead and then withstood a late Wheaton College comeback attempt as the host Beavers held on for a 3-2 victory in a hard-fought New England Womens and Mens Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey contest at MacDowell Field on Tuesday night. Junior Sarah Fredlund, junior Colleen Kelly, and sophomore Courtney Weaving all scored goals and sophomore Jess Pashos made three saves for the Beavers, who have now won five of their last six to improve to 9-4 overall and 4-1 in the conference.

Paladino Earns NEWMAC Player Of The Week Honors
Following a monster week in which she took over sole possession of second place on Babson's all-time goals list, senior forward Jess Paladino (Turner, Maine) has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Field Hockey Player of the Week. It was the second such honor of the season for the Beavers' leading scorer. Paladino was huge on offense for the Beavers, amassing five goals and three assists for 13 points in a 2-1 week. She scored one goal and then assisted the game-winner in overtime of a 3-2 victory at MIT on Tuesday, and then totaled two goals and one assist in a 5-3 loss to 20th-ranked Amherst on Thursday. Paladino closed out the week with two goals and one assist in a 9-0 victory over Clark on Saturday.

Field Hockey 'Plays 4 the Cure' and Routs Clark, 9-0
The Babson College field hockey team defeated visiting Clark University by a score of 9-0 on Saturday afternoon in a New England Womens and Mens Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game at MacDowell Field. Sophomore forward Courtney Weaving (New Preston, Conn.) led the way for the Beavers scoring three goals and assisting another. With the win, Babson improves to 8-4 overall, 3-1 in the NEWMAC and Clark falls to 5-4, 2-1 in the NEWMAC. The nine goals for Babson marks the highest goal total for the Beavers in a NEWMAC contest and ties the all-time highest goal total in a game. Both previous nine goal games were against the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 2003 and then again in 2005.

#20 Amherst Outguns Field Hockey, 5-3
Nationally-ranked Amherst College scored three unanswered goals to start the game on its way to a 5-3 victory over host Babson College in a non-conference field hockey contest at Babsons MacDowell Field on Thursday night. With the win, the Lady Jeffs, ranked 20th in the country in the most recent NFHCA poll, improved to 6-3 overall, while the Beavers dropped to 7-4 on the season. Senior co-captain Jess Paladino (Turner, Maine) scored two of Babson's three goals, moving her into sole possession of second place on the program's all-time scoring list. Junior Sarah Fredlund (New Preston, Conn.) also scored off a Paladino assist in the loss, while sophomore Jess Pashos (Winchester, Mass.) finished with seven saves in net.

Fredlund, Pashos Lead Field Hockey Past MIT, 3-2, in Overtime
Senior Jess Paladino (Turner, Maine) found junior Sarah Fredlund (New Preston, Conn.) for the game-winning goal just over 10 minutes into overtime as Babson downed the MIT field hockey team, 3-2, in New England Womens and Mens Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action Tuesday night at MIT. The Beavers of Babson improve to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in NEWMAC play. The loss was the first for the Engineers in seven tries at Jack Barry Field this year and drops their overall record to 9-3 (1-2 NEWMAC).

Field Hockey Downs Smith, 3-1
The Babson College field hockey team defeated visiting Smith College, 3-1, in a New England Womens and Mens Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup on a wet Saturday afternoon at MacDowell Field. With the win, the Beavers improve to 6-3 on the season, 1-1 in the NEWMAC and Smith drops to 3-5 overall, 0-2 in the NEWMAC. Colleen Kelly (Milton, Mass.), Kelly Walsh (Gardner, Mass.) and Sarah Fredlund (New Preston, Conn.) all chipped in goals for the Beavers. Babson outshot Smith 16-5 in the second half and had a 15-8 corner advantage in the game. Babson sophomore goalkeeper Jess Pashos (Winchester, Mass.) played all 70 minutes for the Beavers and making four saves.

With the win, the Beavers improve to 5-3 on the season and Gordon drops to 1-8.

Springfield Denies Field Hockey, 3-1
Morgan Rein scored a pair of goals to lead the Springfield College field hockey team past rival Babson College, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon in both squad's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener. The Beavers' lone goal of the day came at the 47-minute mark, when junior Sarah Fredlund assisted classmate Colleen Kelly to even the score at 1-1. The Pride then tallied two goals in the final 23 minutes to claim the win. Sophomore Jess Pashos finished with eight saves in goal for the Beavers.

Paladino Powers Field Hockey's 7-2 Romp Over Bridgewater State
Senior co-captain Jess Paladino (Turner, Maine) scored three goals and assisted two others for a career-high eight points to lift the Babson College field hockey team to a 7-2 win over visiting Bridgewater State College in the Beavers' home opener at MacDowell Field on Tuesday night. With the victory, Babson improved to 4-2 on the year, while Bridgewater State fell to 4-1 with its first loss of the 2009 season. The eight points was the most of Paladino's career and it was the second-highest single-game output in program history behind only Elise Conley's 10-point effort on September 9, 2004 - also against Bridgewater State. Sophomore goalie Jess Pashos (Winchester, Mass.) added five saves without allowing a goal in 52 minutes of stellar play in net for Babson.

Paladino Named NEWMAC Field Hockey Player of the Week
Babson College senior Jess Paladino (Turner, Maine) has been named New England Womens and Mens Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey player of the week. This marks the first award of the season for the co-captain. Paladino amassed team-highs of four goals and one assist for nine points in a 2-0 week for Babson. She scored one goal in a 6-0 victory at Eastern Connecticut State on Tuesday and then added three goals and one assist for seven points in a 5-3 win at Bates on Sunday. For the year, Paladino now has five goals and two assists for 12 points in four games.

Skidmore College Senior Elise Britt (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga) scored three goals to lead the Skidmore College field hockey team to a 5-1 win over Babson College, Saturday at Thoroughbred Field. Junior Sarah Fredlund (New Preston, Conn.) scored the lone goal for the Beavers. The 13th ranked Thoroughbreds are 1-0 while Babson falls to 1-1 on the season. The Beavers will visit Eastern Connecticut State University on Tuesday evening for a 6pm game.

Weaving Leads Field Hockey To 8-0 Blowout Victory At Simmons
Sophomore transfer Courtney Weaving erupted for three goals and one assist in her Babson College debut as she led the visiting Beavers to an overpowering 8-0 victory at Simmons College on Tuesday night. Playing her first game in a Babson uniform, Weaving netted back-to-back goals during a four-minute stretch midway through the first half to put the Beavers in front, 2-0. After assisting on Weaving's first goal, junior co-captain Colleen Kelly then netted her first of the season to make it 3-0 with 13:53 left in the opening period, and first-year Kelly Walsh made it 4-0 with her first collegiate score off a Weaving assist just 24 seconds later.

2009-10 Season Preview: Field Hockey
With four of its top five scorers returning this fall, the Babson field hockey team will be seeking its third regular season New England Womens and Mens Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) title in five years and second-ever NCAA bid in 2009. After posting an overall record of 11-9 in 2008, third year head coach Julie Ryan's squad hopes to replace three players lost to graduation with a strong group of veterans and talented first-year class. Leading the pack for Babson this fall will be co-captains Jess Paladino (Turner, Maine) and Colleen Kelly (Milton, Mass.).
