WESTWOOD, Mass.—Babson College senior Lauren Drakeley (Woodbury, Conn.) was selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Drakeley keyed an impressive defense effort that saw the Beavers hold the top two scoring offenses in Division III to just three goals in a pair of games over the weekend. Following Monday's 11-0 win over UMass Dartmouth, the Green and White routed Springfield 6-1 to win its 20th straight NEWMAC regular season game on Friday night. The Pride came into the contest a Division III-best 6.33 goals.
On Sunday, Drakeley and the Babson defense limited No. 1 Middlebury, which ranked second in scoring offense, to season lows for goals and shots on goal in a 2-1 loss to the defending national champions. Prior to Sunday, the Panthers had been held to less than four goals just once during its current 23-game winning streak.
In addition to her work on the defensive end of the field, Drakeley notched her second goal of the season in Friday's win over Springfield.
No. 5 Babson (7-2, 2-0 NEWMAC) returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Bates at 6 p.m.
