Fast Start Carries No. 4 Amherst Past Women's Lacrosse, 17-4

BABSON PARK, Mass.—First-year Maia Noyes (Lexington, Mass.) led all players with four goals to help fourth-ranked Amherst College defeat Babson College, 17-4, in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Wednesday night at MacDowell Field.

Babson, which has dropped three of its last four games, slips to 7-7 on the year, while Amherst improves to 12-1 overall with its fifth straight win.

Senior Lyndsay Giroux (Westwood, Mass.), junior Taylor Thorbahn (Duxbury, Mass.) and first-years Georgia Salvatore (Westwood, Mass.) and Juliana McGuire (Sparta, N.J.) all scored for the Beavers. Junior Maired Williams (Hingham, Mass.) led all players with seven ground balls and four caused turnovers, while classmate Lexi Lenaghan (Hanover, Mass.) had two assists and five draw controls in the loss.

Senior Julia Crerend (New Canaan, Conn.) and first-year Isabele Sennett (Wilmette, Ill.) both scored three times for the Mammoths, while senior Mary Grace Cronin (Arlington, Mass.), junior Lindsey Call (Seattle, Wash.) and sophomore Katherine Malone (Sudbury, Mass.) all contributed two goals apiece. Noyes recorded four draw controls and sophomore Kelly Siebert (Syosset, N.Y.) picked up four ground balls in the win.

Noyes scored three times over the first 12 minutes and Crerend notched her first goal of the night to give Amherst a 9-0 lead with 16:57 to go in the opening half. McGuire converted a feed from sophomore Taylor Herrmann (Mahwah, N.J.) 50 seconds later and Lenaghan set up Salvatore to pull Babson back within 9-2 at the 14:38 mark.

The momentum was short-lived though, as first-year Hannah Gustafson (Newbury, Mass.) and Noyes pushed the Mammoths lead back to 11-3 before the half, and Sennett followed with back-to-back tallies to extend the margin to 13-3 with 20:44 to go in the contest. Giroux buried a pass from Lenaghan for the Beavers' only goal of the second half at the 17:50 mark before Amherst scored four goals, including two by Call, over the final 13 minutes.

First-year Cricket Fligor (Weston, Mass.) came on in relief of sophomore Olivia Phelan (Wilton, Conn.) and stopped eight shots over the final 48 minutes for the Green and White. Sophomore Talia Land (Larchmont, N.Y.) and junior Katie Saveage (Hebron, Conn.) combined to make three saves for the Mammoths.

Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson travels to Emerson at 1 p.m., while Amherst visits Bates at 12 p.m.
