WESTWOOD, Mass.—The Babson College women's lacrosse team had three players honored for their success in the classroom when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released its Academic All-Conference squad last week as sophomores Maria Bravo (Windermere, Fla.), Maren Mellen (Duxbury, Mass.) and Olivia Phelan (Wilton, Conn.) were all selected for the first time.
All three players have played key roles for the Beavers on defense this season. Bravo has started all 16 games and leads the Green and White with career highs of 39 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers, while Mellen has scooped up five ground balls and recorded two caused turnovers in seven appearances.
Phelan has seen action in 10 games and made six starts going 3-3 with an 11.52 goals against average and a .385 save percentage over 291 minutes of action.
Babson (10-7) finished in a three-way tie atop the conference standings and earned the top seed in this week's NEWMAC Tournament. The Beavers will face either Wheaton or Coast Guard on Saturday at 12 p.m. on MacDowell Field.
