WESTWOOD, Mass.—Babson College junior Mairead Williams (Hingham, Mass.) earned New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week accolades on Monday afternoon as announced by the league office.
Williams keyed a strong defensive effort that helped Babson allow just 10 total goals in back-to-back wins to wrap up the regular season. The junior defender finished with three ground balls, three caused turnovers and two draw controls in Wednesday's 16-5 win at Wheaton. Williams then contributed one ground ball and one caused turnover in Saturday's 19-5 victory over Mount Holyoke as the Beavers clinched a share of the league's regular season title.
Williams, who started in seven conference games, picked up 14 groundballs and caused ten turnovers in her last five outings.
The Beavers (10-7, 7-1 NEWMAC) will host either Wheaton or Coast Guard in the NEWMAC tournament semifinals on Saturday at 12 p.m.
