Women's Lacrosse to Face Castleton in NCAA Tournament First Round

Two-Time NEWMAC Champions Travel to Middlebury For NCAA Tournament Opening Weekend

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Fresh off capturing its second consecutive New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament championship, the Babson College women's lacrosse team will travel to Middlebury College for the opening weekend of the 2018 NCAA Division III Championship. The Beavers will take on Castleton University in the first round on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the winner advancing to face the host the Panthers in a second round matchup on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Under the direction of seventh-year head coach Michelle Smith, the Green and White grabbed a share of the NEWMAC regular season title and then defeated Springfield College, 15-13, in Sunday's tournament final. Babson, which is back in the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row and seventh time overall, advanced to the second round before falling to Trinity College last season.

Castleton (11-6) went undefeated in league play and captured its seventh consecutive North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Tournament championship with a 12-10 win over Colby-Sawyer on Saturday. The Spartans lost to Westfield State University in the first round of last year's championship and picked up their only NCAA Tournament win over Morrisville State College back in 2015.

Sixth-ranked Middlebury (16-2) punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the 24th time with a 13-10 win over 13th-ranked Bowdoin College in Sunday's NESCAC championship game. The Panthers reached the national semifinals in 2015 and won their sixth Division III national title in 2016.

Ticket information and a full preview of this weekend's games will be posted later this week.
