Women's Lacrosse Handles Coast Guard, 18-2

BABSON PARK, Mass.- Senior Lexi Lenaghan (Hanover, Mass.) scored four goals and tallied four assists in Babson College's 18-2 win over the Coast Guard Academy in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at MacDowell Field.

With the win, Babson improves to 8-4 overall and 5-0 in conference play, while Coast Guard slips to 4-9 overall and 1-3 in the NEWMAC.

Sophomore Georgia Salvatore (Westwood, Mass.) and classmate Sarah McCarthy (Hanover, Mass.) scored three times each, senior Riley Buonagurio (Duxbury, Mass.) and sophomore Juliana McGuire (Sparta, N.J.) recorded two goals apiece, and first-year Coco Creedon (McKinney, Texas) logged a goal and two assists in the Beavers win. Sophomore Sara O'Connor ( Marshfield, Mass.) chipped in with three ground balls and two draws, while junior Maren Mellen (Duxbury, Mass.) caused two turnovers.

Sophomore Haley Howard (Wilton, Conn.) scored the Bears' only two goals, classmate Mel Goins (Peach Tree City, Ga.) chipped in with an assist, and the duo of first-year Katherine DeHart (Chapel Hill, N.C.) and sophomore Rachel Piche (Vienna, Va.) recorded two ground balls apiece in the loss Bears loss.

Salvatore sparked what would be a 14-goal run for the Bears when she scored off a free position shot in the second minute of play. Over the next 7 minutes, goals by Lenaghan, Salvatore, McGuire, McCarthy, and Buonagurio extended the Beavers lead to 6-0 with 21:38 remaining in the half.

Buonagurio and McCarthy both recorded their second goals of the game over the next three minutes, and Creedon found the back of the net for the first time with just under 11 minutes gone to make it 9-0. McGuire tallied a man-down goal with 15:14 on the clock and the trio of Salvatore, Lenaghan and junior Taylor Herrmann (Mahwah, N.J.) each added one to the scoreboard as the Beavers entered the half with a 13-0 lead.

Sophomore Caroline Benson (Andover, Mass.) got the scoring started in the second half off an assist from Hermann to extend Babson's lead to 14-0 before Howard disrupted Babson's run when she put the Bears on the board with 21:53 to go in the contest. 

Lenaghan tallied two goals over the last 10 minutes and sophomore Kelley Burtch (Norwell, Mass.) scored her first career marker off an assist from Lenaghan late in the second half. 

Sophomore Cricket Fligor (Weston, Mass.) made three saves for the Green and White, while the duo of sophomore Rebecca Dolan (Wilmington, Del.) and first-year Morgan Lusk (Ft. Lauderdale) combined to stop nine shots for the Bears.

The Beavers outshot the Bears 37-9, held a 22-11 advantage in ground balls and a 16-6 edge in draw controls.

• The Beavers are 6-0 all-time against Coast Guard in a series that dates back to 2015.
• Babson has won 11 straight NEWMAC games while outscoring its opponents 191-79.
• With eight on Saturday, Lenaghan now ranks 13th on program's career list with 178 points. Her 76 points this spring also are already the fourth most on Babson's single-season list.
