BABSON PARK, Mass. - The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) recently released its 2008 All-Region teams, and five Babson athletes were recognized. Senior Anita Martignetti (Winchester, Mass.), senior Brianne Carlson (Wolfoeboro, N.H.), junior Jackie Godfrey (Franklin, Mass.), sophomore Kaitlyn Pettengill (Hopkinton, Mass.), and sophomore Anna Collins (Winchester, Mass.) were all named to the All-New England Berkshire Division First Team after leading the Beavers to a program-record 16 wins, their second straight NEWMAC Championship, and their second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
After receiving her fourth straight All-Conference First Team nod and her second consecutive NEWMAC Player of the Year award, tri-captain Martignetti garnered regional First Team honors for the third year in a row. The veteran attack totaled 50 goals and 21 assists for a team-high 71 points this spring while also adding 41 groundballs, 45 draw controls, and 28 caused turnovers. She will graduate as Babson's all-time leader in career points (256) and assists (66) while ranking second in goals (190) and third in groundballs (141).
Godfrey received First Team All-Region honors for the third straight season, matching Martignetti and Babson Athletics Hall of Famer Tracy Russell '96 for the most selections in program history. The junior midfielder led the team with 27 assists, 56 groundballs, and 32 caused turnovers while also adding 38 goals for 65 points and 43 draw controls. She was named All-NEWMAC First Team at the end of the regular season - also her third straight selection.
Earning All-New England First Team recognition for the second straight year, sophomore attack Pettengill tied for the team lead with 54 goals while also adding 12 assists for 66 points. The 2007 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, she was also named All-Conference First Team for the second year in a row.
On the heels of their first-ever All-NEWMAC First Team honors, both Collins and Carlson received All-New England First Team nods for the first time in their respective careers. A sophomore attack, Collins enjoyed a breakout season in which she tied for the team lead with 54 goals to go along with 14 assists for 68 total points, 34 groundballs, 20 CTs, and a team-high 47 draw controls. Carlson, the top defender on a defensive unit that allowed just 7.99 goals per game, also garnered regional recognition after ranking among the team leaders with 30 groundballs and 15 caused turnovers while routinely guarding the opposition's top player.
