Women's Soccer Falls to  Wheaton, 2-1

Norton, Mass. - Junior Emma Dineen (Hinsdale, Ill.) netted a goal in the 42nd minute as Wheaton defeated Babson College, 2-1 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Nordin Field.

With the loss, the Beavers fall to 3-6-1 overall and 0-1-1 in league play, while Wheaton improves to 7-1-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the NEWMAC

The Green and white outshot Wheaton 5-2 in the first half, and held a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior Maddison Gierschick (Hopkinton, Mass.) made four saves in her ninth start of the season for the Beavers.

The Lyons got off to a quick start as junior Kaylee Sye (Acton, Mass.) headed the ball into the net off a header by classmate Kira Olander (Titusville, N.J) to give Wheaton the 1-0 lead in the 16th minute. Dinenn found the equalizer for Babson right before the end of the first half as she netted an unassisted goal.

The Beavers dominated the second half with shots with an 11-6 advantage over the Lyons.

In the 53rd minute, first-year Hannah Leporado (Sudbury, Mass.) received a slip from senior Megan Healy (Huntington, N.Y.) at the 40 yard line to score the game winning goal for Wheaton.

Lyon goalkeeper recorded six saves for the Lyons in her third win of the season.

Babson outshot Wheaton 16-8, and both teams produced five corner kicks apiece.

Both teams resume NEWMAC action on Tuesday as Babson travels to WPI for a 7 p.m. match, while Wheaton hits the road for Wellesley College for a 4 p.m. match.

GAME NOTES
• The Beavers are now 12-26-9 all-time against Wheaton.
• Babson is now 11-4-6 away from home against conference opponents since 2014.
