#1 Coast Guard Ousts #5 Softball from NEWMAC Tournament

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Senior Annette Boston delivered a game-winning RBI single to left breaking a scoreless tie in the bottom of the eighth as top-seeded Coast Guard won its second game of the day in walk off style, beating fifth-seeded Babson 1-0 in Game #8 of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament.
Babson is eliminated from the tournament and ends their season with a record of 20-22. It marks the sixth straight 20 win season for the Beavers and the seventh overall in program history.
Coast Guard (34-3-1) will now take on fourth-seeded Springfield
in Game #9 on Sunday morning at 10:00. The Pride put Coast Guard in
the losers bracket with a 3-1 win on Thursday.
Sophomore Allison Majcher was the pinch runner and was placed on
second as part of the tiebreaker to start the bottom of the eighth,
she moved to moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by first-year Jamie
Kim.
Babson senior Danielle Liska and Coast Guard first-year Hayley Feindel each allowed just two hits each through the first five innings. Feindel chalked up nine strikeouts while Liska fanned four in the first five innings with neither pitcher issuing a walk in the first five frames.
Coast Guard had a chance to score in the sixth as they had
runners on second and third with just one out, but Liska recorded a
strikeout and fly out to keep the game scoreless.
Feindel (29-2) allowed just three hits while walking one and
striking out 10 to pickup the win.
Liska (14-10) scattered six hits, allowed the unearned run in the
eighth, did not walk a batter and struck out six.
For Babson, first-year Jess Pashos and senior
Kaitlyn Clark each hit a double and first-year
Morgan Sprague had one hit in the loss. Boston and
junior Courtney Wolf each had two hits for the Bears.
