BABSON PARK, Mass. -- After a marvelous 32-12 season and a valiant run to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament championship game, the Babson College softball team has received an at-large bid to the 2013 NCAA Division III Tournament.
Coached by Dave Canan, the Beavers will be making their third appearance in the national tournament and their first as an at-large selection. This will also be the third time that Babson has hosted the New England Regional after doing so in both 2005 and 2006.
The seedings for the regional will be:
1. Tufts (38-3)
2. Rowan (37-7)
3. Babson (32-12)
4. Springfield (26-18)
5. St. Joseph's-ME (33-9)
6. Bridgewater State (26-15)
7. Husson (30-10-1)
8. Lesley (24-17)
The tournament will begin with four games on Thursday, starting with Tufts vs. Lesley at 10 a.m. St. Joseph's and Springfield will then play at noon, followed by Babson against Bridgewater State at 2 pm. and Husson vs. Rowan at 4 p.m. (NOTE: start times for final three games are approximate) Play will continue with four more games on Friday, four on Saturday, two on Sunday, and possibly one on Monday (if necessary). Both single-day tickets and full tournament passes will be available. The cost for a day pass will be $5 for adults and $2 for senior citizens, students, and kids ages 3-12. The cost for a tournament pass will be $15 for adults, $6 for senior citizens, students, and kids 3-12. Babson students with ID will be admitted free for all contests courtesy of the Undergraduate School.
