Softball Sweeps Past Allegheny and Clarkson

CLERMONT, Fla.—Senior Leslie Moore (Atkinson, N.H.) and sophomore Ashley Tango (Reading, Mass.) each drove in three runs apiece as the Babson College softball team swept Allegheny College and Clarkson University on Sunday afternoon. The Beavers defeated the Gators, 5-1, in game one and downed the Golden Knights, 9-5, in the nightcap.

GAME 1 vs. Allegheny
Moore went 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBI and junior Samantha Smith (Hillsborough, N.J.) drove in a pair of runs for the Beavers. Sophomore Annie Quine (Santa Monica, Calif.) also doubled in support of Ali Reilly (New Canaan, Conn.), who moved to 2-1 on the year by allowing just one run on four hits to go along seven strikeouts over seven innings.

The Green and White (4-2) took a 2-1 lead on Smith's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third, and tacked on three more insurance runs in the fifth. Moore drove in Quine and sophomore Josephine Mares (Houston, Texas) with a one-out triple to center and Smith followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to four.

GAME 2 vs. Clarkson
Tango doubled twice and drove in two runs, while first-year Victoria Casey (Emerson, N.J.) went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI for Babson. Quine, Moore and first-years Kayla Schinik (Watchung, N.J.) and Tori Roche (Andover, Mass.) also recorded two hits apiece, and classmate Brooke Stock (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) earned her second victory of the year in the circle.

The teams traded runs over the first three innings before the Beavers broke things open with a seven-run fourth. Tango and Casey both produced two-run doubles as the Green and White sent 12 hitters to the plate on its way to building an 8-1 lead.

Following an off day on Monday, Babson will take on Worcester State at 9 a.m. and Hope at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
