Women's Swimming & Diving Falls To Simmons, 181-111
BABSON PARK, Mass.—Junior Erica Riccardi (Los Angeles, Calif.) won a pair of races and finished second in another as the Babson College women's swimming & diving team competed in its final meet of the fall semester on Tuesday night at Morse Pool, falling in a dual meet against Simmons College, 181-111.
Babson is now 3-6 on the season, while Simmons, which had dropped five consecutive dual meets to the Green and White, moves to 5-1 on the year.
Riccardi opened the evening by winning the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 28.24, just edging out Sharks' first-year Miriam Swisher (Albuquerque, N.M.). She would later win the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:01.71, beating Swisher by just over a second, for her 12th victory of the season. Swisher turned the tables in the 50-yard freestyle though, beating Riccardi, who posted a time of 25.93, by just over a half a second.
Senior Mika Cucullo (South Salem, N.Y.), who made her season debut for the Beavers against Simmons, won the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 203.80. First-year Paris Ekman (Fargo, N.D.) finished second, and later won at the 3-meter height, posting a score of 162.05.
Junior Kendall Ford (Geneva, Ill.) also had a strong showing for Babson, as she picked up a victory in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:04.05, and came in second in both the 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley. Senior Lily Yie (Longmont, Colo.) finished second in both the 50- and 100-yard breaststroke, and first-years Madeline Dupre (Fiskdale, Mass.) and Mallory Ham (Norwalk, Conn.) posted second-place finishes in the 1000-yard freestyle and 50-yard butterfly, respectively.
Babson will return to action on January 8, 2014, when it travels to Wellesley College for a tri-meet against Coast Guard Academy and the host Blue.
