Swimming & Diving Opens Season With Strong Performances Against UMass Dartmouth

BABSON PARK, Mass.—The Babson College swimming & diving teams combined to win 17 events in a season-opening split against UMass Dartmouth on Saturday at Morse Pool. The Beaver men posted a 126-90 win, while the women fell to the Corsairs, 125-95.

Senior Paris Ekman (Fargo, N.D.) and first-year Tirza Rentovich (Harrisburg, Pa.) each won a pair of events for the Green and White in the women's half of the meet. Ekman came in first on both the 1- and 3-meter diving boards, while Rentovich had a tremendous collegiate debut, touching the wall first in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle.

Senior Madeline Dupre (Fiskdale, Mass.) came in second in 500- and 1000-yard freestyle, while classmate Mallory Ham (Norwalk, Conn.) was the runner-up in both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly. Dupre and Ham also and teamed with Ekman and first-year Cassandra Collins (Branford, Conn.) to come in second in the 200-yard medley relay.

Senior Catherine Vedovino (Pompton Plains, N.J.) finished second in the 100-yard backstroke and sophomore Tessa Amoroso (Rowley, Mass.) had a second-place showing on the 3-meter diving board and third in the 1-meter event. Collins was third in both the 200 free and 100-yard breaststroke, while sophomore Olivia Gilbert (Portland, Maine) added a third-place result in the 500 free.

The Babson men put together a dominant performance in their opening meet of the year, winning all 13 events. Four different swimmers won two events apiece, led by senior Kevin Shivers (Mercersburg, Pa.), who was victorious in the 200 free and 100 backstroke.

First-year Jack Lucero (Huntington Beach, Calif.) touched the wall first in the 500 and 1000 freestyle events, while classmate Alex Damiecki (Centerville, Mass.) won the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke. Fellow first-year Jason Trefry (Danvers, Mass.) also posted a pair of first-place results on the 1- and 3-meter diving boards.

Junior Mitchell Posk (Boynton Beach, Fla.) was part of two relay wins and came in first in the 50-yard freestyle. Classmate Alex Grant (St. Petersburg, Fla.) won the 100-yard butterfly, while fellow junior Ross Ojerholm (Worcester, Mass.) touched the wall first in the 100 free.

Babson returns to action on Friday when it travels to WPI at 7 p.m. The men will take on Brandeis and the host Engineers, while the women will compete in a four-team meet.
