Swimming & Diving Enjoys Strong Individual Performances against Norwich, Regis

NORTHFIELD, Vt.—The Babson College men's and women's swimming & diving teams combined for 10 victories and nine runner-up finishes in a double-dual meet against Norwich and Regis on Saturday afternoon at Goodyear Pool. The Beaver men defeated the Pride, 127-83, and were edged by the host Cadets 119-115, while the women suffered a pair of closes losses falling 120-110 to Norwich and 121-100 to Regis.

The Babson men posted five individual victories, led by two from first-year Jack Lucero (Huntington Beach, Calif.). He started the day with a 54-second win in the 1000-yard freestyle before cruising to another first-place finish in the 500 free. Lucero also teamed with junior Ross Ojerholm (Worcester, Mass.), classmate Mitchell Posk (Boynton Beach, Fla.) and first-year Michael Cerny (Windsor, Conn.) to win the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Posk touched the wall first in the 100 free, while first-year Alex Damiecki (Centerville, Mass.) and senior Anton Pronichencko (Palisades, Calif.) won the 200-yard IM and 100-yard breaststroke, respectively. Damiecki added a runner-up finish in the 100-yard butterfly, senior Kevin Shivers (Mercersburg, Pa.) was second in the 100-yard backstroke and first-year Jason Trefry (Danvers, Mass.) came in second in both the 1- and 3-meter diving events.

On the women's side, the Beavers got victories in both diving events from senior Paris Ekman (Fargo, N.D.) and a win in the 50 free from first-year Tirza Rentovich (Harrisburg, Pa.). Sophomore Tessa Amoroso (Rowley, Mass.) was second on the 1- and 3-meter boards and classmate Maria Orive (Guatemala City, Guatemala) came in second in the 200 free and fourth in the 100 free.

Senior Madeline Dupre (Fiskdale, Mass.) was the runner-up in the 100 back in addition to her fourth-place showing in the 1000 free. Sophomore Olivia Gilbert (Portland, Maine) came in third in both the 500- and 1000-yard freestyle, while senior Mallory Ham (Norwalk, Conn.) contributed a third-place result in the 200 IM and a fourth-place showing in the 100-yard butterfly. Both swimmers joined Rentovich and first-year Cassandra Collins (Branford, Conn.) to post a victory in the 200-yard medley relay.

The Babson women will travel to Simmons on Tuesday at 6 p.m., and both teams return to Morse Pool to host Clark on Saturday at a 1 p.m.
