Swimming & Diving Falls to Wellesley, Coast Guard

WELLESLEY, Mass.—Fresh off a nine-day training trip in Puerto Rico, the Babson College men's and women's swimming & diving teams returned to competition on Thursday afternoon at Wellesley College. The Beavers suffered losses to both the Coast Guard Academy (225-58) and the host Blue (235-48) on the women's side, while the men were defeated by the Bears, 187-86, at Chandler Pool.

Competing in its first meet in over a month, the Green and White combined for 14 top-three results. Senior Paris Ekman (Fargo, N.D.) was the Beavers' top female performer as she finished second in the 1-meter diving event and followed it up with a third-place showing on the 3-meter board. Sophomore Tessa Amoroso (Rowley, Mass.) came in fourth in both diving events, while first-year Tirza Rentovich (Harrisburg, Pa.) finished third with a time of 26.06 in the 50-yard freestyle.

Senior Madeline Dupre (Fiskdale, Mass.) posted her best time of the season (12:35.28) to come in fifth in the 1000-yard freestyle. She also added a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, while sophomore Olivia Gilbert (Portland, Maine) came in sixth with a season-best time of 6:00.02 in the 500 free. Gilbert also joined Rentovich, senior Mallory Ham (Norwalk, Conn.) and sophomore Maria Orive (Guatemala City, Guatemala) on Babson's sixth-pace 200-yard freestyle relay team.

The Green and White earned their lone victory of the day in the men's 200-yard medley relay as seniors Anton Pronichenko (Palisades, Calif.) and Kevin Shivers (Mercersburg, Pa.), junior Mitchell Posk (Boynton Beach, Fla.) and first-year Alex Damiecki (Centerville, Mass.) touched the wall first with a time of 1:40.18. Pronichenko finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke and third in the 200 breaststroke, Damiecki was the runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly and Posk added a second-place showing in the 100-yard freestyle to go along with a third-place result in the 50 free.

First-year Jason Trefry (Danvers, Mass.) came in second in both the 3-meter and 1-meter diving competitions, and recorded his top score of the year (171.75) on the 1-meter board. Classmate Jack Lucero (Huntington Beach, Calif.) was the runner-up in the 1000-yard freestyle and also finished third in the 500 free. Shivers added fourth-place results in both the 100- and 200-yard backstroke, while juniors Alex Grant (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and Ross Ojerholm (Worcester, Mass.) came in fourth in the 200-yard butterfly and 100-yard freestyle, respectively.

Babson returns to action next Saturday with a double-dual meet against Wheaton and Gordon at 1 p.m. in Norton, Mass.
