Women's Swimming & Diving Tied for 9th after Day One at NEWMAC Championship

WORCESTER, Mass.—The Babson College women's swimming & diving team collected 30 points in the 800-yard freestyle relay and is tied ninth place after the first of 20 events at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship on Thursday night.

The Beavers' top relay team of seniors Madeline Dupre (Fiskdale, Mass.) and Mallory Ham (Norwalk, Conn.) and sophomores Olivia Gilbert (Portland, Maine) and Maria Orive (Guatemala City, Guatemala) trimmed over four seconds off its previous best time to come in 10th with a  time of 8:40.77. Babson's 'B' relay squad of senior Catherine Vedovino (Pompton Plains, N.J.), juniors Reilly Robbins (Centerville, Mass.) and Fernanda Tilkian (Key Biscayne, Fla.), and first-year Cassandra Collins (Branford, Conn.) finished 19th overall.

The Green and White returns to the pool for the second day of competition on Friday. Prelims begin at 10 a.m., while the finals get started at 6 p.m.
