NORTHAMPTON, Mass—The Babson College women's tennis team powered past Smith College, 9-0, to earn a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference victory this afternoon. The Beavers (7-0, 2-0 NEWMAC) remained unbeaten on the season, while Smith dropped to 0-3 overall, and 0-3 in the NEWMAC.
Rebecca Stone (Dover, Mass.) moved to 5-0 at No. 3 singles for the season with a straight-set win over Bayla Weick, while Mikaela Stamas (Northborough, Mass.) and Minte Tamoshunas (Pittsford, N.Y.) eached moved to 4-0 with straight set wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Monica Mercer (Woodinville, Wash.) won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles to remain unbeaten in singles play this season, while Alex Freeman (Medfield, Mass.) picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Jordan Dubin at No. 1 singles, and Sarah Whitaker (Dellwood, Minn.) earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at No.2 singes over Clair Oblamski for the Beavers.
Babson cruised to three easy victories in the doubles matches with the No. 1 pairing of Whitaker and Freeman winning 8-0, while Tamoshunas and Stone won 8-4, and Ashley Lake (Brockton, Mass.) and Mercer coasted 8-2, at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively. Lake and Mercer are now 6-0 as a doubles pairing this season.
Smith will continue NEWMAC play when they host to Mount Holyoke on September 27 at 5:30 p.m., while Babson will stay on the road to face MIT, also on Tuesday afternoon, at 4:00pm.
