BEVERLY, Mass. -- The Babson College women's tennis team opened its second semester play with a dominating 9-0 win over host and 2012 NCAA qualifier Endicott College on Wednesday. With the win, the Beavers improved to 10-3 on the year, while the Gulls lost for just the second time in falling to 14-2.
Babson opened with a sweep of doubles play, highlighted by an 8-2 win at number one by sophomore Sarah Whitaker and first-year Alex Freeman. Senior captains Ashley Lake and Rebecca Stone teamed up for an 8-1 victory at two, and first-years Minte Tamoshunas and Alexis Ferraro completed the sweep with an 8-5 win at three.
The Beavers continued to roll in singles play, as Freeman won in a walkover at one, Whitaker won 6-3, 6-0 at two, Stone coasted 6-0, 6-1 at three, Tamoshunas triumphed 6-2, 6-0 at four, senior captain Monica Mercer prevailed 6-1, 6-3 at five, and first-year Courtney Fischer won 6-3, 6-2 at six.
