DUDLEY, Mass.  – Babson senior captain Victoria Lorido (Miami, Fla.) , sophomore Minte Tamoshunas (Pittsford, N.Y.) and sophomore Alexis Ferraro (Coral Gables, Fla.) each won a doubles and a singles match to help the Beavers to a 7-2 triumph over host Nichols in  a non-conference match on Friday afternoon at the Francis W. Robinson Courts. The contest was the season opener for both lineups.

Ferraro and doubles partner first-year Tori Paolino (East Orleans, Mass.) put the visitors on the board first with an 8-4 victory over the senior duo of Alexandra Cifone (Bristol, Conn.) and Jillian McQuiggan (Weymouth, Mass.) at the second flight.  Nichols evened the match at 1-1 as junior Anna Dyakiv (Amsterdam, N.Y.) and sophomore Lindsay Benoit (Holden, Mass.) claimed the first flight with an 8-6 victory over junior Sarah Whitaker (Dellwood, Minn.) and sophomore Alex Freeman (Medfield, Mass.). Dyakiv and Benoit initially had a 1-0 advantage and fell behind until regaining the lead at 6-5 en route to the win. Tamoshunas and Lorido then put Babson in front 2-1 as they bested senior Megan Woodruff (Morris, Conn.) and sophomore Kelsey Peterson (Fairbanks, Alaska) to take the third doubles flight by a score of 8-6.

The singles portion of the match would favor Babson as Whitaker downed Cifone 6-1, 6-1 in the second singles flight before Ferraro posted a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 win at the fourth flight against McQuiggan.  Tamoshunas took the fifth flight 6-0, 6-4 over Woodruff and Lorido topped Peterson 6-4, 6-2. At court one, Freeman and Dyakiv had a lengthy match with Freeman claiming the flight 6-4, 6-3. All eyes were on Benoit and Paolino and the third singles flight as Benoit won 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).

The Bison venture to New London, N.H. on Monday for a 10:00 a.m. appointment with Colby-Sawyer and a 1:00 p.m. match against Clark. Babson will host Roger Williams tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
