MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Babson College women's tennis team returned to action for the first time in nearly two weeks on Friday, but the lengthy lay-off did little to slow the Beavers' quick start to the season as the Green and White routed host Wesleyan University, 8-1. With the victory, Babson remained unbeaten at 3-0 on the year.
The Beavers picked up three fast points in double play, with sophomore Alex Freeman and junior Sarah Whitaker teaming up on an 8-4 win at one, sophomore Alexis Ferraro and first-year Tori Paulino secured an 8-1 triumph at two, and senior captain Victoria Lorido and sophomore Minte Tamoshunas joined forces on an 8-4 victory at three. Babson then continued to roll in singles play, led by a convincing 6-2, 6-1 win at number one by Freeman. Whitaker also cruised, 6-2, 6-2, at two, Paolino coasted 6-3, 6-0 at three, Tamoshunas won 6-4, 6-3 at five, and Lorido prevailed 6-4, 6-3 at six.
Wesleyan (1-1) picked up its lone point of the day at number four singles, where Jess Seidman edged Ferraro, 6-2, 7-5.
