SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Led by sophomore Alex Freeman and junior Sarah Whitaker, the Babson women's tennis team defeated Springfield, 9-0, this afternoon at the Julius Appleton Courts. The Beavers won all singles matches in straight sets as they improved to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in league play.
Springfield is now 4-3 overall, and 1-3 in the NEWMAC.
Freeman and Whitaker got the Beavers off to a quick start in doubles play, sweeping the Pride's Sam Carney and Siana Green, 8-0. Sophomore Alexis Ferraro and first-year Tori Paolino added an 8-4 win at number two, and sophomore Minte Tamoshunas teamed with senior captain Victoria Lorido to complete the sweep with an 8-5 triumph at three.
The Beavers continued to overpower Springfield in singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets. Freeman and Whitaker again led the charge, as each posted a 6-2, 6-2 win at numebers one and two, respectively. Paolino, Ferraro, Tamoshunas, and Lorido rounded out the list of singles victors for Babson, which will return to action with a home match against NEWMAC rival MIT on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
