Women's Tennis Trumps Bentley, 6-1, in Spring Opener

MEDFIELD, Mass. -- The Babson College women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its 2012-13 season with a 6-1 win over Bentley College in a contest played at the Kingsbury Club on Friday afternoon.

Babson took a 2-1 lead after the doubles competition, thanks to an 8-3 win by sophomore Alex Freeman and sophomore Sarah Whitaker at number one and an 8-1 triumph by first-year Tori Paolino and sophomore Alexis Ferraro at number two.

The Beavers clinched the overall victory with straight-set wins in the top four single spots. Freeman (6-2, 6-0) and Whitaker (6-0, 6-3) each cruised at one and two, respectively, while Paolino pulled out an opening-set tie-breaker to win her match at three, 7-6 (3), 6-4. Ferraro completed the team win with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at number four, as the final two matches were halted.

Babson will return to action with another indoor match at Bates on Friday, March 8 before heading to California for contests against Hardin-Simmons and Trinity over spring break.
