LEWISTON, Maine -- The Babson College women's tennis team suffered a tough defeat at the hands of host Bates College on Friday, as the Beavers fell by a score of 8-1 in their second match of the spring season.
Now 8-5 on the year, Babson earned its only point of the day at second doubles, where the tandem of sophomore Alexis Ferraro and first-year Tori Paolino teamed up to post a 9-7 victory over the Bobcats' Jacquelyn Holmes and Lucy Brennan. From there, Bates would take the remaining two doubles matches and all six singles contests, with the Beavers' strongest fight coming at number one singles, where sophomore Alex Freeman came up just short in an opening-set tie-breaker as part of a 7-6 (5), 6-0 loss.
Babson's next match will take place on the West Coast, as the Green and White head to Claremont, California for four contests during spring break. The team will kick off the trip on March 19, when the Beavers face Hardin-Simmons at 11 a.m. and Trinity College at 7 p.m.
