CLAREMONT, Calif. -- The Babson College women's tennis team split its two matches on the opening day of its spring break trip to California on Tuesday. The Beavers defeated Hardin-Simmons, 8-1, before falling to Trinity, 9-0.
The Beavers (9-6) dominated the opening match against Hardin-Simmons, beginning with a convincing sweep of doubles play. Alex Freeman and Sarah Whitaker earned an 8-2 win at number one, while the pairing of Alexis Ferraro and Tori Paolino and the tandem of Victoria Lorido and Minte Tamoshunas each earned 8-0 victories in the second and third spots, respectively.
Babson continued to roll in singles action, with Freeman leading the way with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph at one. The Beavers also received straight-set wins from Ferraro at three, Tamoshunas at four, Lorido at five, and Courtney Fischer at six to finish off the 8-1 rout.
In Babson's second match of the day, Trinity earned wins at all nine spots to run away with the overall victory. The closest contest came at second doubles, where Ferraro and Paolino fell to their opponents by a score of 8-4.
