Women's Tennis Overpowers Roger Williams, 9-0

BRISTOL, R.I.—The Babson College women's tennis team opened the season in dominating fashion on Friday afternoon, easing past Roger Williams University, 9-0, in non-conference action at the RWU Courts. The Beavers cruised to three lopsided doubles wins before taking each of the six singles matches in straight sets.

Babson, who is now 10-0 all-time against Roger Williams moves to 1-0 while the Hawks drop to 0-1.

Junior Alex Freeman (Medfield, Mass.) and first-year Dina Weick (Amity, Conn.) picked up an 8-2 victory at number one doubles before both picked up 6-2, 6-1 wins at first and second singles, respectively. Senior Sarah Whitaker (Dellwood, Minn.) won 7-5, 6-3 at number three singles, junior Alexis Ferraro (Coral Gables, Fla.) cruised to an easy 6-0, 6-1 triumph at fourth singles while sophomore Tori Paolino (East Orleans, Mass.) dropped just one game at number five singles and junior Courtney Fischer (Greenwich, Conn.) finished off the sweep with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at sixth singles.

The Beavers, who have won 15 consecutive opening-day matches dating back to 1999, will open New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play next Saturday at Springfield while Roger Williams travels to Salve Regina tomorrow afternoon.
