BOSTON, Mass.—After winning a career-high 10 singles matches this fall, Babson College senior Sarah Whitaker (Dellwood, Minn.) was tabbed as a second-team selection at number three singles when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released its women's tennis postseason awards on Tuesday afternoon.
Whitaker, who was named to the all-conference team for the first time, went 5-0 this fall against league opponents at third singles, and won six of her seven NEWMAC matches overall. All six of her conference victories came in straight sets, including three where she did not drop a game. Overall, Whitaker finished the season at 10-3 in singles play and went 8-7 in doubles action.
Whitaker, who has been named to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference teams in each of the last three seasons, has 36 career singles victories and 37 wins in doubles.
Babson (9-6), which finished fourth in the regular season, saw its fall season come to an end on Saturday in a 5-0 NEWMAC semifinal loss to top-seeded MIT.
