No. 4 Amherst Too Much For Women's Tennis

WELLESLEY, Mass.—Fourth-ranked Amherst College dropped just two games in three doubles matches and won five of the six singles matches en route to an 8-1 victory over Babson College in the opening round of the Nor'Easter Bowl hosted by Wellesley College on Friday afternoon.

Amherst, which has won four straight matches, is now 6-2, while Babson drops to 9-8 on the year.

Junior Alex Freeman (Medfield, Mass.) earned the lone point for the Beavers with an impressive  7-5, 6-3 win over Jen Newman at number one singles. Senior Sarah Whitaker (Dellwood, Minn.) was defeated, 6-1, 6-3, at number two, and first-year Dina Weick (Woodbridge, Conn.) fell 6-0, 6-0 at third singles.

Sophomore Tori Paolino (East Orleans, Mass.) dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision at number four, junior Alexis Ferraro (Coral Gables, Fla.) lost 6-0, 6-1 at number five, and classmate Courtney Fischer (Greenwich, Conn.) was beaten 6-0, 6-2 at number six singles.

Babson returns to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday when it travels to Brandeis for its second Nor'Easter Bowl match.
