Women's Tennis Topped By No. 24 Brandeis, 7-2
WALTHAM, Mass.—Behind two wins in doubles and a pair of three-set victories in singles, 24th-ranked Brandeis University defeated Babson College, 7-2, in the consolation round of the Wellesley College Nor'Easter Bowl on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Brandeis is now 5-8, while Babson drops to 9-9.
Junior Alexis Ferraro (Coral Gables, Fla.) had a hand in both points for the Beavers, teaming with sophomore Tori Paolino (East Orleans, Mass.) for an 8-6 win at number two doubles, before slipping past Judges' sophomore Emily Eska (Princeton, Mass.), 6-4, 7-5, at number four singles. Paolino won the first set at number five singles before falling 4-6, 7-5, 10-6 to junior Simone Vandroff (Moss Beach, Calif.), as did sophomore Nicole Fischer (Greenwich, Conn.), who was beaten 6-7, 3-6, 10-7 at number six.
Junior Alex Freeman (Medfield, Mass.) dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision at number one singles, senior Sarah Whitaker (Dellwood, Minn.) fell 6-0, 6-4 at number two, and first-year Dina Weick (Woodbridge, Conn.) lost 7-5, 6-1 at number three.
Both teams conclude play at the Nor'Easter Bowl on Sunday at 10 a.m. as Babson hosts Bates, while Brandeis travels to Wellesley.
