BABSON PARK, Mass.—After taking all three points in doubles, Babson College cruised to four straight-set wins in singles to secure a 7-1 victory over Connecticut College in non-conference women's tennis action on Friday afternoon at the Farwell Courts.
With the triumph, Babson closes the season at 10-10 overall, marking the fifth time in the last seven years that it has reached double figures in wins. Connecticut College drops to 2-8 with the loss.
Junior Alex Freeman (Medfield, Mass.) and first-year Dina Weick (Woodbridge, Conn.) rolled to an 8-0 win at number one singles, junior Alexis Ferraro (Coral Gables, Fla.) and sophomore Tori Paolino (East Orleans, Mass.) posted an 8-5 victory at number two, and senior Sarah Whitaker (Dellwood, Minn.) and junior Courtney Fischer (Greenwich, Conn.) completed the sweep with an 8-6 triumph at number three.
Freeman defeated Camels' sophomore Charlotte Marcoux (Sudbury, Mass.), 6-0, 6-3, at number one singles, Weick cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at number three, and Ferraro posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory at number four. Whitaker, who was playing her final collegiate match, earned the Beavers final point with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at number two singles.
Whitaker, who was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference team twice during her career, wraps up her career with 38 victories in both singles and doubles competition. She won a career-high 12 singles matches this season and earned second-team all-league honors in the fall.
