WORCESTER, Mass.—The Babson College women's tennis team rolled through doubles play and picked up five of its six singles matches in straight sets en route to a dominating 9-0 victory over Nichols College at the Corash Tennis Courts on the campus of Clark University on Saturday afternoon.
With its second win in as many days, the Beavers are now 2-0 on the year, while the Bison, which defeated Clark earlier in the day, drops to 1-1.
First-year Yagmur Akgul (Istanbul, Turkey) rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory for the second consecutive match at number two singles, while classmate Claire Foster (Orange, Conn.) dropped just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win at number six. Senior Alex Freeman (Medfield, Mass.) had little trouble in a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at number one singles and first-year Jenny Quenard (St.-Legier, Switzerland) and senior Alexis Ferraro (Coral Gables, Fla.) both won 6-3, 6-1 at third and fifth singles, respectively. Junior Tori Paolino (Orleans, Mass.) split the first two sets against Nichols' first-year Lauren Candia (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) before pulling out a 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8) triumph at number four.
The Green and White made quick work of the Bison in doubles action, as Freeman and Akgul won 8-2 at number one, Ferraro and Paolino posted an 8-1 victory at number two, and Quenard and first-year Kylie Kam (Honolulu, Hawaii) recorded an 8-4 decision at number three.
Babson will return to action next Saturday when it travels to Springfield College to open New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play at 1 p.m. Nichols will host Wheaton College in its home opener on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
