SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—The Babson College women's tennis team continued its dominant start to the 2014 season on Saturday, overpowering Springfield College 9-0 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at Appleton Courts.
With the victory, Babson is now 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the NEWMAC, while Springfield drops to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
First-year Yagmur Akgul (Isantbul, Turkey) cruised to her third consecutive 6-0, 6-0 decision at number two singles, while sophomore Dina Weick (Woodbridge, Conn.) rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win in her season debut at number six. Senior Alex Freeman (Medfield, Mass.) also had little trouble picking up her fifth consecutive victory at number one singles, defeating Pride sophomore Rachel London (Port Jefferson, N.Y.), 6-0, 6-1.
First-year Jenny Quenard (St.-Legier, Switzerland) won 6-1, 6-1 at number three, senior Alexis Ferraro (Coral Gables, Fla.) was victorious for the fourth straight match, 6-1, 6-1, at number four, and first-year Claire Foster (Orange, Conn.) recorded a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at number five.
Freeman and Akgul picked up an 8-1 victory at number one doubles, Ferraro and junior Tori Paolino (East Orleans, Mass.) won 8-4 at number two, and Quenard and first-year Kylie Kam (Honolulu, Hawaii) collected an 8-2 triumph at number three for the Green and White.
Babson returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to take on Simmons College at 3:30 p.m. at Harvard University.
