BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College swept three doubles matches and dropped just two games in singles play on its way to an 8-0 victory over visiting Emerson College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis action on Friday afternoon at Farwell Courts.
With the win, Babson moved to 8-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play, clinching a spot in the upcoming league tournament. With the loss, Emerson drops to 0-7 overall and 0-6 in the NEWMAC.
The Beavers won by default at number three doubles, while senior Alexis Ferraro (Coral Gables, Fla.) and junior Tori Paolino (East Orleans, Mass.) won 8-0 at number one. Sophomore Dina Weick (Woodbridge, Conn.) and first-year Claire Foster (Orange, Conn.) cruised to an 8-0 triumph at number three for a 3-0 lead in the match.
Ferraro rolled past the Lions' Sarah Brennan-Athas, 6-0, 6-0, at number two singles, while Foster and Weick both won without dropping a game at number three and number five, respectively. First-year Kylie Kam (Honolulu, Hawaii) breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Nora Gonzalez at number four, and Paolino led 6-1, 4-0 at number one when the match was called. The Green and White also collected a point by default at number six singles.
Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson travels to Wellesley College for a 10 a.m. match, while Emerson hosts Smith College at the Winchester Tennis Club at 5:30 pm.
