SOUTH HADLEY, Mass.—Sophomore Dina Weick (Woodbridge, Conn.) and first-year Claire Foster (Orange, Conn.) rallied after falling in doubles to each win in singles to claim the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) Chris Davis C Flight title with a 2-1 victory over Middlebury College on Sunday afternoon at the Mount Holyoke College Tennis Complex.
The Beavers' duo fell behind 1-0 after doubles with an 8-5 loss to the Panthers' Katie Paradies and Shannon Gibbs. Weick evened the match with a 7-5, 6-3 triumph over Gibbs, and Foster came back from down a set to secure the championship with a 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 1-0 (10-8) win over Paradies.
Senior Courtney Fischer (Greenwich, Conn.) and first-year Ashland Stansbury (Hingham, Mass.) also reached the finals of the Chris Davis D bracket but were defeated by Simmons College, 2-1. The Sharks' pairing of Katie Crowley and Han Le went ahead with an 8-4 victory in doubles, and Crowley clinched the win with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Stansbury. Fischer collected Babson's lone point with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Le in the other singles match.
The Beavers (11-3), who are seeded third in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament, will host sixth-seeded Springfield College on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
