BABSON PARK, Mass.—The Babson College women's tennis team dropped just a pair of games in doubles and won all six singles matches in straight sets on its way to defeating visiting Wheaton College, 9-0, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match on Tuesday afternoon at Farwell Courts.
With its second consecutive win, Babson is now 8-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play, while Wheaton drops to 4-5 overall and 3-4 in the NEWMAC.
Senior Tori Paolino (East Orleans, Mass.) and junior Dina Weick (Woodbridge, Conn.) posted an 8-1 win at number one doubles, while first-years Chloe Brandt (Denver, Colo.) and Eleni Gianelos (West Chester, Pa.) collected an 8-1 victory at number two. Sophomores Claire Foster (Orange, Conn.) and Kylie Kam (Honolulu, Hawaii) completed the sweep with an 8-0 result at number three.
The Beavers continued their dominance in singles as sophomore Yagmur Akgul (Istanbul, Turkey) was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at number, while classmate Jenny Quenard (St.-Legier, Switzerland) and Paolino both posted 6-1, 6-0 decisions at second and third singles, respectively. Brandt picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory at number four, Foster won 6-0, 6-1 at number five and first-year Alexandra Blizard (Dover, Mass.) made her collegiate debut with a 6-0, 6-3 triumph at number six singles.
Babson returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Mount Holyoke for an 11:30 a.m. match, while Wheaton hosts Clark at 1 p.m.
• The Beavers are 13-11 all-time against Wheaton.
• Babson can lock up the second seed and a bye to the semifinals in the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament with a victory on Saturday.
• With wins in both singles and doubles on Tuesday, Paolino now has 90 career victories and is 7-1 in eight matches against the Lyons.
• The Beavers are 12-2 during the fall portion of their schedule over the last two years.
