NORTHAMPTON, Mass.—The Babson College women's tennis team wrapped up play at the 2015 New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) hosted by Smith College on Saturday afternoon. Each of the Beavers' five doubles teams won once on the day, which was highlighted by a quarterfinal appearance by sophomores Yagmur Akgul (Istanbul, Turkey) and Jenny Quenard (St.-Legier, Switzerland).
Babson's top duo, Akgul and Quenard rolled to an 8-4 third-round victory before falling 9-7 in the quarterfinals to Leah Bush and Julia Cancio of Williams. First-years Chloe Brandt (Denver, Colo.) and Eleni Gianelos (West Chester, Pa.) also reached the third round in the winners bracket, but were unable to hold onto a 4-2 lead in an 8-6 loss to MIT's top pairing of Elysa Kohrs and Cindy Liu.
Senior Tori Paolino (East Orleans, Mass.) and junior Dina Weick (Woodbridge, Conn.) were 8-2 winners in the second of their three matches on Saturday, while sophomores Claire Foster (Orange, Conn.) and Kylie Kam (Honolulu, Hawaii) collected an 8-3 victory in their final match of the weekend. First-year Alexandra Blizard (Dover, Mass.), who was playing alongside Charlotte Scott of Williams, won her opening match in the consolation draw on Saturday morning.
Babson (10-1) earned the second seed in this week's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament, and will face either third-seeded Wellesley or sixth-seeded Springfield at 3 p.m. on Saturday at MIT.
